Community, Solidarity, Self-Expression
I’m running to be your LGBT+ Transgender and Non-Binary Officer for 2024/25! I’m a transgender woman studying a Master’s in Creative Writing. For me, some of the most meaningful aspects of my identity are self-expression and solidarity, so if you were to elect me, I would focus on helping make UEA a place where transgender students feel free and safe to be themselves in a community that supports one another.
My Priorities:
- Transgender Mutual Support Group: A regularly scheduled meeting where transgender students can talk in a safe space and connect with our community.
- Information Booklets for Trans Students: I will gather information from transgender students about what they wish they’d known when they started university or transitioning and collate this into advice booklets with resources for transgender students.
- Drag Workshops: I would bring in drag performers to run workshops for students.
- Queer History: To connect us to our history, I would spotlight historical transgender people, with posters, books, and films.
- Educating Allies: To combat misinformation, I will put posters around campus with information on how to be an ally.
- Transgender Buddy System: To help ensure we all feel supported, I would implement a buddy system where new trans students can be connected with transgender people who are more experienced who can support, and recommend helpful resources.
- Non-Alcoholic and Wheelchair-Accessible Events: To ensure every transgender person can engage in our community, I would put on events like LGBTQIA+ movies and pronoun badge-making sessions, whilst making sure all events are wheelchair-accessible.
