The Advice Team are based in the Students Union offices in Union House - we are open 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday.

We provide advice and information through a range of appointments including voice & video calls, email and face to face. We can also support you as a companion or representative at University meetings.

Book An Appointment

We ask that students complete one of our online forms to request an appointment with an advisor. This is to make sure we understand you and can provide the most appropriate support and information for your situation, as well as making sure we are have your permission to keep a record of your information and the contact we have with you.

If you contact us by email or pop in to the Students Union Welcome Desk to ask for an appointment, you may be directed to the request forms as a starting point.

If you're not sure which form to complete, you can email the team at advicecentre@uea.ac.uk or use the General Advice or Welfare form.

Please complete the relevant form through the links below and a member of our team will be in contact with you within 3 working days.

Academic Appeals

October 2024 - please read
It’s important to be aware that the University academic appeals process can take between 4 – 6 weeks.
If you have been withdrawn from your studies, if your appeal is successful this can mean that you will need to take a break in studies before returning to your course.

If you are seeking support for a stage one academic appeal, please follow the normal process for requesting an appointment. During busy periods, we may offer email appointments as standard so that we can support as many students as possible.

Staff Referral

Where possible, we would always encourage students to engage with advice(su) directly so that we can provide the most timely and accurate information for their circumstances. If a student feels able to complete one of our booking request forms, this is the quickest way for them to access the right support from our team.

However, we recognise that there may be times when UEA staff or other uea(su) departments wish to refer a student to us for additional support.

Please email advicecentre@uea.ac.uk, copying in the student being referred, and include the following information:

  • student name
  • student number
  • the student's preferred email address for contact
  • an outline of the student's situation
  • an outline of advice or support you have given to the student
  • an outline of the support you are seeking on behalf of the student
  • any other information relevant to the circumstances

We ask that the student be copied into the email as confirmation that they are aware of, and have consented to, the referral.

What to expect from us

We will send an email to the referring member of staff confirming receipt of their referral.

We will make contact with the student by their preferred email address to:

  • ask for more information about their circumstances to inform our advice
  • signpost them to the appropriate booking form to arrange an appointment with an advisor
  • share relevant resources and information guides

Unless requested by the student, we will not provide further updates to the referring member of staff about the support provided as a result of the referral.
