Standing Tall for LGBTQ+ Students!
L McKinnell-Michael (they/she)
As LGBTQ+ Officer, I would remain committed to the Queer ideals of grassroots community activism and inclusion. I would hold the university accountable for its commitments to LGBTQ+ students and staff. I would also work hard to highlight marginalised voices and make the campus an accessible and friendly space. To achieve these goals, I will:
-
Establish and Maintain Sober Queer Spaces: I will re-establish Trans Community Circle. I will work with Pride Society to make LGBTQ+ events as accessible as possible.
-
Listen to Campus’s LGBTQ+ Voices: Create a more efficient and accessible channel for people to voice their concerns. I will continue to normalise pronoun disclosure at UEA.
-
Make Spectrum Queer Again: Focus on hiring local LGBTQ+ talent at UEA’s Queer Club Night.
-
Encourage Queer Sexual Health: Highlight free sexual health resources and advice catered to LGBTQ+ people.
-
Challenge Old-fashioned Systems: Re-work the university’s name-changing procedure to make it easier and more accessible.
My aims are not just to make UEA safe for LGBTQ+ people, but to create a space where we can thrive, learn and celebrate each other and ourselves. As LGBTQ+ Officer, I would make impactful, positive changes to the lives of LGBTQ+ students.
