Isla's got her eye on it!

Hi! I’m Isla (she/her) and I’m hoping to be your next Undergraduate Education Officer!

Why should you vote for me?

This year, I’ve been busy fighting to get your voices heard about the issues that really matter to you. My current roles as Chair of Education Committee and School Convenor for History mean I regularly work with other student representatives from all different faculties to call attention to the problems getting between you and your education. I believe that my experience in these roles gives me uniquely broad insight into the needs and wants of students - and I’m really passionate about using it to fight for you at an even higher level. Also, as someone with a chronic illness and who works in the NHS, I'm aware of some of the external challenges that might impact your studies. On top of all this, my current roles mean I know the university system inside-out, so I already have the right tools to be an effective Undergraduate Education Officer.

What will I do?

Put simply, I’ll continue to fight to fix the problems that impact you and your degree every day!

  • Timetables – Did I just see you shudder? I’m sure you’ve all got your horror stories. That’s why I’ll continue to push UEA to fix its timetabling issues and keep students better informed of last-minute changes to their schedules. Students deserve to know what’s happening, when, and where, from the start of the semester to that long-awaited break.
  • Extensions and EC’S – I’ll keep listening to student feedback and strive to improve the current extension system so it works how you need it to work. Sometimes, life happens, and you shouldn’t have to jump through hoops just because something outside of your control had an impact on you.
  • Keep our courses! – Nobody should miss out on studying what they’re passionate about at university! I’ll push back against the ongoing reduction of module and course options so you get as much choice as possible within your degree.
  • Lecture recordings – I’ll safeguard the improvements made to the current lecture recording system and fight for lectures to be livestreamed online whenever possible. Nobody should get left behind.
  • Better support and guidance – Everyone needs a little help now and again. I’ll push for students to be taught the key skills they need for their degree more directly – an online quiz won’t always help you with your coursework!

And I want to hear what you think! Is there an important issue impacting you that I’m missing off? Have you got any questions? Send me an email! After all, the most important thing about UEA should be its students.
