Goals and Aims

Improve the sense of belonging and create Postgraduate communities

Making the SOCA scheme available for postgraduates

  • Supporting postgraduate students of colour
  • Most of the SOCA applications this year were from Postgraduate students- unfortunately, the scheme wasn't available for us.
  • The amount of students of colour and international students has risen – some new to UEA and only here for one year.

More Lecture Accessibility

  • Limiting the use of white lecture backgrounds with black ink
  • Normalising rest breaks every hour.

More inclusivity and boosting engagement

  • Postgraduate Freshers (Sept. starters) and Refreshers (Jan. Starters)
  • More continental inclusive celebratory events
  • Supporting awareness holidays e.g. fundraisers, activities etc.
  • Online socials especially for commuters/distance learners

Better study life

  • Push for additional funding alongside ways students can substitute and save money- finance can be challenging with a single loan.
  • Part-time course options- more flexibility for students with responsibilities e.g. carer, less income etc.
  • Reasonable scholarships to cater to ALL students- tuition is not cheap. Students shouldn’t miss out because specific criteria aren't met.

Vote for Liv as your Postgraduate Officer. I understand the importance of students' well-being and security. I am confident that I can meet your needs to create a welcoming and accessible postgraduate life.
