Hi everyone, I'm Olivia Hunt (She/Her), and I am running to be your 2024/25 Activities and Opportunities Officer.

Who am I?

  • Dance and Gymnastics Sports Executive 2023-24 - Advocating for fair treatment of our clubs and encouraging inter-club support.
  • Cheerleading Stunt President 2022-24 – Having held many committee positions, including President, I have been involved in implementing improvements that led to a 46% club growth.
  • Business Society Publicity Officer 2023-24 – Responsibilities include managing the social media platform, networking with other societies, and organising charity events.
  • Business Management Course Rep 2021-22 & 2023-24 – Championed the interests of my peers in Student-Staff Liaison Committee meetings and raised concerns.
  • Shortlisted for UEA Sport Volunteer of the Year 2023-24 – Enthusiastically engaged in various activities, including the Inclusivity and Sustainability working groups, interviewed by Norfolk Police for their Women's Safety campaign, and helped run events like the Sports and International fair, Santa Run, Zumba and more.
  • Entrepreneurial Background – During my gap year I managed three limited companies, proving I am resourceful and ambitious!

Financial Transparency and Support for Clubs

  1. Greater Financial Transparency: Sport is expensive and given the current cost of living, members should receive regular, clear breakdowns of where your money goes.
  2. Increase Scholarships: Campaign for increased scholarship funding from UEA to support a broader array of sports.
  3. Sport for the Mind: Advocate for funding mental health first aid resources and workshops to ensure committees and members look after themselves.
  4. Live Streaming and Celebrating Achievements: While sports results are showcased at the LCR during sports night, I propose expanding this visibility by live-streaming BUCS games and competitions in the bar and displaying results on screens across campus.

Increase Exposure and Relationships for Societies:

  1. Open Societies Night (DSD): Leverage campus spaces, like the Warren, by enabling societies to book the area for 'open nights' to attract new members.
  2. Facilitate Society Networking: Building on UEA Sport’s plans for club committee training, working on an event to bring new society committees together for an interactive conference and networking opportunities.
  3. Academic Societies Support: I would advocate for academic societies to receive support from their respective schools, including monthly meetings. This would create opportunities for societies to gain publicity from schools and exchange knowledge and networks within their fields and vice versa.
  4. Raise Awareness of Societies: With 200+ societies, students can feel overwhelmed during freshers' week. To address this, I propose utilising screens on campus to provide societies with advertising opportunities throughout the year. Also encouraging students to get involved mid-year.

I have loads of other ideas, including a fancy dress swap scheme to promote sustainability and lower the cost of socials, exploring better solutions for pre-drinks plus, continuing Luke’s work on the Night Bus project, creating Instagram groupchats for clubs/societies to share content easily and expanding committee drop-ins to include a service for students wanting to get involved but unsure where to start.

Above all, I am approachable and passionate, on the Hunt for ways to make your student life better!
