About Me!
As a part time carer doing a full-time degree, I understand what it’s like to have your responsibilities and passions go unnoticed. I would use this opportunity to fight for the representation of those who fall under the radar.
UEA is our home, and I want to fight for it to feel that way. University is challenging, and if elected, I just want to make your lives all that bit easier.
Previous Experience:
-
2022/23
-
Rounders & Anime Society Equality and Diversity Officer
-
Pride BAME Welfare Rep
-
Events & Safety Officer of Psychology Society
-
Fencing Health & Safety Officer
-
Union Council Rep of Board-Games Society
-
Fencing Social Secretary (2023/24)
I desired these roles as educating myself and others, striving for accessibility and creating events are key to forming a community and making this far away place feel like home! Making spaces for people to feel safe and come together is integral to the university experience.
Current Experiences:
As an active member of the Student Union, I can empathise with the common frustrations students have with our democratic processes and the desire to have your voice heard – sometimes it’s difficult. As C&D officer, I plan to create a smoother and more streamline process to get student’s voices heard.
With 2 years spent as chair of union council and sitting on our Democratic Procedures Committee, I have already been involved in quite a bit of the behind the scenes of our democratic processes, like creating & supporting motions - which were successful in making constitutional changes in:
-
Protection against discrimination for marginalised students
-
Anti-radicalisation measures within the student union through open communication & providing safe, unbiased and non-judgmental spaces to ask questions using anonymous forums
-
Made additions to Student Code of Conduct to hold people account for less obvious forms of discrimination
-
Sustainability in Student Spaces via a rollout Battery Disposal Units
The Future of UEA SU!
I will campaign for and create an effective but simple democratic process, create students equipped with tools to hold their own successful campaigns, Increased Student Engagement, Transparency & Communication within the student union. With affordable food that students influence themselves. These, along with spaces to channel & display student creativity will turn UEA into a home.
We deserve to leave our mark, instead of remaining a fleeting memory in our university’s history.
