Candidate for the position of Students with Disabilities Officer (Physical Disabilities Place) (PT)

Annabelle Lambert

Let's make UEA more accessi-Belle

Hiya, My name is Annabelle Lambert,

I am a third-year ecology and conservation student studying part-time and remotely. I have chronic pain and hypermobility. I know how valuable the disability officers are and I would be honoured to be part of assisting students to get the help they deserve. I am currently on the board of employability advisers for UEA so I am used to working and communicating with the university to create change.

I fully understand how hard and draining advocating for yourself can be. I would love to make the process easier for current disabled students and work with the university to put things in place for future students

My main Priorities include:

  • Work with the university to ensure staff members have a basic understanding of disability and disability law and their obligation for education to be accessible

  • Questioning the university on their reluctance to continue with dual learning. We know it is possible and can work well so I would like to have their reasoning explained.

  • Communicate with the university about changing the accommodations system so that staff are automatically made aware of students’ accommodations.

  • Lifts are frequently broken and unless you are alerted by fellow students you won’t know until you are trying to use them. An optional mailing list run by the university may work well.

University should be an enjoyable time and we shouldn't have to spend so much time fighting for accessibility,

Annabelle
