Let’s bring belonging for all

Who am I?

I’m Kevin and currently a full time masters student studying Landscape History, having graduated my BA in Literature and History from UEA in 2021.

I was the PTO physical disabilities officer 2020/21 and this year am a member of the PG committee. I’m also an active member of the mature student’s community.

What do I want to do?

First and foremost, I want to make sure that postgrads can feel part of the UEA community.

No matter whether you are PHD, PGR, PGT or PGCE you deserve to have a voice that’s prepared to fight for your rights on campus and in your studies and research.

I plan to continue to push to keep fees for PG students at a sustainable level and be an advocate for those students who teach to be better protected and supported.

There is a need for the protected postgraduate spaces to be retained on campus, for them NOT to be absorbed into or opened up as part of the general student spaces.

I would also push for more inclusivity for postgraduates to be able to take part in sports and societies, as well as pushing for a greater variety of postgraduate specific social or sports activities to be available.

Other stuff…

Having been at UEA prior to Covid I have seen how the “community” aspect of campus has suffered, so would want to work to try to bring that sense of community and interaction back, specifically within the postgraduate students. This can be particularly needed for those who may have additional caring responsibilities at home or international students living in an unfamiliar country.

Postgraduates used to have PG Gardeners, with an allotment type space near Earlham Hall. It is things like this that I will be keen to bring back , if wanted, so PG’s have free or lost cost activities they can take part in.
