Concrete is the University of East Anglia’s student newspaper. Concrete is published both in-print and online every four weeks on a Tuesday during term time. Compiled by a team of 35 editorial team members, Concrete is headed by Co-Editors-in-Chief Fiona Hill and Jamie Bryson. Inside Concrete is Venue, our arts supplement, headed by Venue Co-Editors Lily Taylor and Sankavi Naresh.
Our alumni have taken their skills from Concrete into lots of exciting careers, including many who have gone into journalism - you can find out about some of them here!
Any questions, story leads, and press releases are to be directed to Co-Editors-in-Chief Fiona Hill and Jamie Bryson at concrete.editor@uea.ac.uk

How to write for us:
- Firstly, buy your membership; it’s £3 and will allow you to write an unlimited number of articles for the whole of the 23/24 academic year. You will also need a membership to join the Facebook groups below.
- Join the Concrete Members 23/24 Facebook group
- Join the subsequent section groups that you would be interested in writing for:
Concrete: News, Features, Home of the Wonderful, Global, Comment, Science, Lifestyle, Travel, Sport
Venue: Arts, Books, Fashion, Creative Writing, Music, Film, TV
- After you have done this you will be able to comment on the content calls our Section Editors put out every four weeks to pick up articles. (If you do not have Facebook and wish to write for a section, get in touch with the relevant section editor via email.)
Pitching:
A pitch is your chance to offer your idea for an article to a Section Editor; it takes the form of a paragraph or two and should include the following information:
- A detailed description of the topic you would like to cover
- If relevant, the sources you will be using
- Your ideal word count
This should be sent to the relevant section editor, who’s contact details will be available in their section’s Facebook group.
We do not accept full length articles without a pitch beforehand as our Section Editors want to work with you to make sure the article fits their section; a fully written piece doesn’t allow for the growth and learning experience we would like to offer you as a budding journalist.
If you are interested in joining Concrete’s editorial team, keep an eye on our Instagram for vacancies (mostly in May, with other occasional opportunities during the year).
