UEA Men's Rugby Club is the university’s most active club on and off the field. Our prestigious club offers a friendly and safe environment in which advanced players can further develop their skills playing at a high level, and less experienced players are able to learn the trade or strive for more competitive rugby! We offer playing opportunities in our two BUCS teams competing on Wednesday afternoons. The club also prides itself on its Trojans team – a side entered into the local league playing on Saturdays.
The 2026/27 season will see our three teams compete at three different levels, allowing for rugby to be played at all skill levels. These being our 1XV in Men's Midlands 2B, our 2XV in Men's Midlands 3B and our Trojans in Eastern Counties Division One North.
The club trains together every Monday and Tuesday team-based sessions in preparation for BUCS fixtures. Attendance is expected to be considered for match day squads.
We also offer opportunities to be a part of the scholarship squad which includes benefits including extra rugby and S&C sessions. We also provide development sessions (Rugby and S&C) to those not in the scholar team to up their skill level, as it is vital no member of the club is left behind.
UEA Men’s Rugby Club is also the most socially active club at the university. Not only are we the best group of mates you'll have on campus, we’ll be sure to fill your calendar with a variety of socials every week from sober socials and touch rugby to club meals and themed nights out. If one thing’s for sure about the rugby club, it’s that we have enough socials for everyone no matter what they are looking for.

The Real Cost of Sport
The 'Real Cost of Sport' initiative, a project reviewed and rebranded by the Students' Union in partnership with uea+sport, aims to provide prospective members with a comprehensive overview of the potential costs of joining their chosen sports club. This year, I have worked closely with the clubs to ensure these tables are as accurate and up-to-date as possible.

This guide is intended to serve as a general reference. The compulsory cost includes the uea+sport membership fee of £55, which is a one-time payment that covers membership across all clubs.
When considering additional expenses, it is important to note that some clubs may not have any extra costs, while others might incur additional fees. These costs often depend on the level of competitiveness within the sport; recreational or social participation is generally less expensive. Additionally, some equipment, such as shoes or gum shields, may be used across multiple sports, potentially reducing overall expenses.
For any specific questions or further information about a particular club, please contact the club directly or contact us at union.opportunities@uea.ac.uk for more details about the project.
All the best,
Olivia Hunt
