Welcome to the UEA Climbing Club, one of the biggest clubs on campus!

Climbing is the perfect club to join if you want to challenge yourself, make a great bunch of friends and try a new sport! The Climbing Club is open to all abilities and levels and many people who join the club have never climbed before. We are also committed to making sure that all members are trained to the highest safety standards.

We host 4 sessions a week which are included in your club membership fee. You just need to turn up to the session. We highly recommend you getting your assessment done as soon as you can, but you can turn up to the sessions without one.

Session times

Monday at 3:00-5:00pm

Wednesday at 3:00-5:00pm

Friday at 8:00-10pm

Sunday at 4:00-6:00pm

On the way into sessions sign in at the sports park reception, receive your stamp and you'll be ready to climb!

We also run a weekly trip to the local bouldering centre (Highball Norwich). Highball is an amazing facility with loads of bouldering, auto-belays and a fully kitted out gym! This takes place every Wednesday evening from 6pm-9pm!

Head over to our Facebook for more info on how to attend these sessions!

What do we provide?

We provide harnesses for all sessions as well as safety training so it doesn't matter if you don't own any kit. We also provide all kit for trips throughout the year.

Socials:

When we’re not Climbing, we love socialising and we have a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic socials throughout the year so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. In the past, we have been on bar crawls, slacklined, had BBQs, gone trampolining, done film screenings, formal socials and much much more!

Completing your training:

Once you have paid your UEA sport membership and climbing club membership fee you will need to sign up for a training session by purchasing a ticket (they are listed as climbing training session). When you have been trained you will then book an assessment through the Sports park reception desk to make sure that you are capable of using the climbing wall safely. This assessment will cost you only £5 and is required by the Sports park and lasts for 12 months. Please get this done as soon as you can.

Additional Cost of Sport Ranges

The additional cost of sport project, which was created by the Students’ Union, alongside uea+sport, is designed to give prospective members information on the range of costs they may face in joining their chosen sport.

This range should be taken as guidance. For compulsory costs, this price includes uea+sport membership which is £55, and you only need to pay once to join all of our clubs.

When considering additional costs, some clubs may have none and others may have further costs. This is often dependent on the level of competitiveness for the sport you get involved in, and so recreational or socially playing may be cheaper. You may also have equipment which can be used between multiple sports, for example shoes or gum shields.

For any questions, please ask the sport club for specific further information, or union.opportunities@uea.ac.uk for further information on the project.

Many thanks,

Luke Johnson
