GeekSoc's Doctor Who Night

Thursday 23 November 2023, 6:30pm - 10pm

NewSci 0.01

Join the Geek Society as we celebrate sixty years of the classic sci-fi TV series Doctor Who!

It all started out as a mild curiosity in a junkyard, and now it's turned out to be quite a great spirit of adventure!

On the 23rd of November 1963, just after a quarter past five in the afternoon, the very first episode of Doctor Who was broadcast on BBC TV. Over the next sixty years, this mad little show would endure wobbly sets, a woefully low budget, complaints that it was too violent, complaints that it was too childish, Tom Baker's ego, cancellation, and that one atrocious charity single from the 80s, but despite all of that it's somehow still going strong!

This year sees the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate to the TARDIS, playing the Fourteenth Doctor and his friend Donna Noble, in three special episodes to celebrate the show's anniversary, but we at the UEA Geek Society have decided that that's not quite good enough. Sure, it'll be an absolute blast to see these two back on our screens, but there's still something missing. What this anniversary really needs, right now, is a quiz!

Join us in NewSci 0.01 on Thursday the 23rd of November 2023, at a half past six in the evening, for a screening of an as-yet-unannounced episode from the show, followed by a Doctor Who -themed quiz, and maybe a few games of Doctor Who charades if we've got time! There'll be excitement! There'll be thrills! There may even be Jammie Dodgers!

So put on your long, multi-coloured scarf, grab a bag of jelly babies, and get ready for an adventure in time and space!
