Effective communication starts with Liz-tening

Who I am

Hi, my name is Liz Bigalke, and I am running for the position of the part-time EU officer at the Student Union.

I’m a first year EU-student, studying molecular biology and genetics.

Where I am from

I grew up in Hamburg, Germany but started my first of three years at boarding school in 2018. Since then, I have been around international and UK students and know what it’s like to be away from home for the first time. During my time at boarding school, I learned how important communication is and that it can be difficult to do so in a new environment. In these situations, it was always helpful to have someone around that knows what it feels like and can help and support you, which is why I am here.

What my aims are

Part of my role as the EU officer is to support all EU students as much as I can. Whether this is helping with the transition to university in a different country and a new environment or supporting EU students communicate with the uni and the SU.

I also know that having a safe community can help too, which is why I am planning on organizing international events such as ‘Go Global’ to bring the international community including EU students together and showing all UK students how amazing it is to be part of the international community.
