Extenuating Circumstances: how to apply

At UEA, if something adversely affects your studies and you're going not going to be able to meet a  deadline, you can apply for Extenuating Circumstances and get an extension. Previously this process was completed by filling out a paper form and handing it to your hub, but now it's moved online.

We're really pleased about this change and that UEA is moving more services online. It will make accessing services much easier, particularly for students experiencing illness or a family emergency, where coming onto campus isn't always practical or possible.

All applications for undergraduate and taught postgraduate EC extensions must now be logged via e:vision. On your e:vision screen, you'll see a new section titled 'reporting extenuating circumstances' where you can read guidance and apply.

All students are automatically eligible for one five-day self-certification extension. The new system enables extensions for self-certification to be approved automatically, with the new submission deadline instantly viewable in the “Assessment Submission” section. The request must still be submitted ahead of the original submission deadline.

Take a look at the Extenuating Circumstances section of our website for more information.

If you've got any more questions, or need some help with reporting, you can book in an appointment with our friendly advice team here.
