want to have a say in your education? become a course rep!

Hi Everyone,

We’ve reached that point in the year when we’re starting to think about welcoming another group of amazing student leaders. Teaching and Learning is an integral part of your experience at UEA. In recent pandemic times, we’ve seen more and more students come forward to talk about their concerns and offering well thought-out innovative solutions. If you are one of those students then we definitely NEED YOU!

It’s so important to both the SU and schools across the University that there is positive and constructive communication between staff and students to improve the student experience. In order to do this, we ask students to become Course Reps.

Course reps help to feed into discussions with lecturers about things they like and dislike about their course via meetings within Schools; for example, this year there have been discussions about online teaching, extending deadlines, online assessments and group work. Course Reps also work with their school to come up with solutions to problems and represent the student voice to the University and the Students’ Union.

Course Rep recruitment for 21-22 is now open. If this is something you would be interested in head to Course Rep Recruitment 21/22 (uea.su) and fill in the expression of interest form before the morning of Thursday 6th May. One of our team will be in touch about the next steps!

Course Reps are provided with training in the Autumn semester about the role and the support they will receive.

This year we also introduced Faculty Student Forums which allowed Course Reps to discuss with the Associate Deans (Learning and Teaching) in the Faculty and address any issues relating to academic experience of students in their area, working with higher levels of the University.

The volunteer role is a fantastic opportunity to develop your employability skills such as communication, negotiation and public speaking. You’ll also develop networks amongst other like-minded individuals who are all passionate about leading change and working with staff across the University.

We want as many of our members as possible to feel empowered to contribute to discussions with their schools about their experiences at UEA. The opportunity to put yourself forward is LIVE NOW on the website, and you can do so by simply filling out the form.

We are also running elections for our Undergraduate Faculty Convenor positions as well as some of the remaining vacant School Convenor positions. If you are passionate about developing your School or Faculty’s teaching and learning experience for students, this may be a leadership role for you! To find out more head here School and Faculty Convenor Elections 21/22 (uea.su) by the morning of Thursday 6th May.

Let’s be the change. Let’s lead change together.

If you have any questions please do give me an email callum.perry@uea.ac.uk

All the best,

Cal X
