Egg Box is a society that promotes the creation of any kind of publication. We're passionate about drawing, writing, making and printing, and we're here to provide a hub for creative projects and collaboration at UEA!
A few years ago, our predecessors took over the running of Egg Box Publishing, an arm of the UEA Publishing Project set up by lecturers that prints university publications, and we want you to be a part of an exciting, student-led publishing house.
One of our main projects each year is publishing the annual Undergraduate Creative Writing Anthology, which anyone can get involved in at any stage, be it deciding submission criteria, editing, designing, marketing or more. It looks great on a CV and we hold a glitzy launch event in the city to celebrate all the hard work that goes into it.
Aside from the official anthology, we help our members publish everything from chapbooks to zines, booklets and flyers. We publish a few communal zines as a society throughout the year, helping to showcase the talent of UEA creatives. We're also always looking for new ideas, so if you have one, let us know!
We also host a number of events and socials on campus and further afield to connect our members and find out more about the publishing industry. For example, we have had stalls at several local print fairs where we met a wide range of authors, artists and craftspeople, and have co-hosted socials with other societies like Creative Writing and Art Society. More than that, this year we're hoping to host guest speakers to allow Egg Box to become a resource for getting into the publishing industry. Joining the society is a great start!
We frequently attend UEA enterprise fairs to sell our zines and run workshops on campus where anyone is free to collaborate and experiment with ideas they have, and to get help with their own self-publishing projects - keep an eye on our Instagram for details about these throughout the year.
