ABOUT UEA ATHLETICS
BUCS CLUB OF THE YEAR 2026 AND UEA CLUB OF THE YEAR WINNERS 2026!
UEA Athletics is open to athletes of all abilities and disciplines. From athletes competing at national level to those trying athletics for the first time, everyone is welcome. Our club brings together sprinters, middle and long-distance runners and field athletes, creating a friendly and supportive community both in and out of training!
Alongside our regular training, we have a calendar full of socials throughout the year which are open to all of our members. We also have plenty of opportunities to compete and represent UEA at a range of competitions for all abilities. Our experienced coaches provide high-level coaching across all disciplines, helping athletes get the most out of their training and reach their goals. We also have our Development Squad for beginners and those looking to develop their distance running in a supportive and friendly environment.
From training sessions and run clubs to competitions and socials, there are plenty of ways to get involved and meet new people. Whether you're completely new to athletics or already competing at a high level, we'd love to have you as part of UEA Athletics!

COMPETITIONS
There are plenty of opportunities to compete throughout the year and represent UEA Athletics. Whether you're competing for the first time or regularly racing at a high level, there are competitions for everyone.
Our three main BUCS competitions are BUCS Cross Country, BUCS Indoor Championships and BUCS Outdoor Championships, giving athletes the chance to compete against universities from across the country. We also compete in LUCA Indoors and Outdoors, as well as the East Anglian Cross Country League. These competitions are open to all abilities, giving every athlete the opportunity to represent UEA throughout the year.
Keep an eye on our Instagram and club chats for upcoming competitions, team information and opportunities to represent UEA. Whether you're chasing a PB or competing for the first time, we'd love to see you on the start line!
SOCIALS
There's plenty happening away from training too! We have a full calendar of socials throughout the year, with something for everyone and all of our members welcome. From weekly sports nights at the LCR and club meals to themed nights, sober events and our famous 24-hour Movember Relay, our socials are a huge part of UEA Athletics. They're a great way to get to know people across the club, meet athletes from different disciplines and be a part of our community.
We also have regular run clubs and other social activities throughout the year, so there's always another chance to get involved. Our social calendar is shared on Instagram, so make sure you're following @ueaathletics to keep up with what's coming up!

The Real Cost of Sport
The 'Real Cost of Sport' initiative, a project reviewed and rebranded by the Students' Union in partnership with uea+sport, aims to provide prospective members with a comprehensive overview of the potential costs of joining their chosen sports club. This year, I have worked closely with the clubs to ensure these tables are as accurate and up-to-date as possible.

This guide is intended to serve as a general reference. The compulsory cost includes the uea+sport membership fee of £55, which is a one-time payment that covers membership across all clubs.
When considering additional expenses, it is important to note that some clubs may not have any extra costs, while others might incur additional fees. These costs often depend on the level of competitiveness within the sport; recreational or social participation is generally less expensive. Additionally, some equipment, such as shoes or gum shields, may be used across multiple sports, potentially reducing overall expenses.
For any specific questions or further information about a particular club, please contact the club directly or contact us at union.opportunities@uea.ac.uk for more details about the project.
