UEA Lifting offers an inclusive and safe space to try out and train in various strength-based disciplines. We have something for everyone, whether it's your first time under the bar or competitive within the sport. Our main focuses are Powerlifting, Weightlifting, and "Open Lifting" (which emphasizes general strength training using barbells, free weights, and machines).

Throughout the year, we offer a variety of in-house competitions, from Bench-only to Full-power mock meets. UEA Lifting provides ample opportunity to progress, having previously guided our lifters through regional, national, and international competitions. We also have an ever-growing BUCS team in both Powerlifting and Weightlifting to get involved in.

We understand that progress doesn't only happen within the gym. Because of this, we aim to offer our members regular workshops focused on health and wellbeing to boost performance, covering topics such as nutrition, programming and more. We also have weekly mobility sessions which are a chance to improve flexibility, aid recovery and destress.

General Session @ SportsPark Gym: Wednesdays 2-4pm, Fridays 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm & Sundays 4 pm - 5 pm

Powerlifting Session @ Fitness at The Street: Saturdays 2:30pm - 5:30 pm

Weightlifting Session @ Adira Weightlifting Club, Attleborough: Fridays 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Mobility Sessions @ SportsPark: Wednesdays 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm 

Membership Types Explained 24/25

General Membership £40: Access to all on-campus sessions, socials, internal competitions and workshops. Access to monthly fitness classes at Adira **

Powerlifting Add-On £40: Access to weekly sessions at Fitness at the street* + access to online club powerlifting programs. Entry fee to BUCS Powerlifting, plus subsidised travel and accommodation.

Weightlifting Add-On £40: Access to weekly coached sessions at Adira* + access to Adira Weightlifting programming. Entry fee to BUCS Weightlifting, plus subsidised travel and accommodation.

*travel to external facilities is arranged by the club

The Real Cost of Sport

The 'Real Cost of Sport' initiative, a project reviewed and rebranded by the Students' Union in partnership with uea+sport, aims to provide prospective members with a comprehensive overview of the potential costs of joining their chosen sports club. This year, I have worked closely with the clubs to ensure these tables are as accurate and up-to-date as possible.

This guide is intended to serve as a general reference. The compulsory cost includes the uea+sport membership fee of £55, which is a one-time payment that covers membership across all clubs.

When considering additional expenses, it is important to note that some clubs may not have any extra costs, while others might incur additional fees. These costs often depend on the level of competitiveness within the sport; recreational or social participation is generally less expensive. Additionally, some equipment, such as shoes or gum shields, may be used across multiple sports, potentially reducing overall expenses.

Weightlifting (FREE TASTER)
Come to Adira Performance in Attleborough to develop your weightlifting skills and learn the secrets of the snatch and clean & jerk from expert coach, Nick, from Adira.
Women’s only open lifting (FREE TASTER)
Sportspark Gym
Come to open lifting and train your own way, while meeting fellow members of UEA Lifting. An optional session will be provided by our General Lifting Captain, Alex Gibberd, who will also attend to give guidance.
Powerlifting (FREE TASTER)
Fitness at the street (transport provided)
Come with us to Fitness at the Street in Salhouse to train on competition spec powerlifting equipment - calibrated plates, stiff bars and combo racks.
Open lifting (FREE TASTER)
Come to open lifting and train your own way, while meeting fellow members of UEA Lifting. An optional session will be provided by our General Lifting Captain, Alex Gibberd, who will also attend to give guidance.
Games Night

Join us this World Mental Health day for a sober games night. A chance to come together as a lifting community to unwind, play games and connect with others outside the gym. Snacks and good vibes provided :)
