NEWSCI 0.08

Join the UEA Geek Society for our first meeting of the year this Thursday from 18:15 in NewSci 0.08. If you enjoy delightfully whimsical TV shows, weird geeky quizzes, and other miscellaneous fun, GeekSoc is the place to be!

Each of our weekly meetings is perfectly set-up to provide plentiful opportunities for you to socialise with other people who are interested in that one niche TV show you adore or that book series you can't get enough of or the podcast drama you've been listening to constantly for the past month. It's also a great way to try out new media that we hope you'll love just as much! Every meeting has a different theme, so we basically function as a kind of geeky smorgasbord for you to try things out and see what you think! But first, our taster session: a bit of everything, lots of geeky discussions, and an episode of a very popular sci-fi show...

We're kicking off the evening with an episode of Doctor Who, the popular sci-fi series that follows the time-travelling adventures of the mysterious Doctor Who and their assorted humans as they right wrongs, vanquish terrible foes, and strive to visit South Wales at least once a month. But which episode, you may ask? And very good at asking questions you are too! We do decree that the episode shall remain a mystery until the 24th because we'll be putting it up to a vote! Don't worry if you've not seen the show before - the episodes we'll be choosing between are all ones that are good fun without any prior knowledge.

After that, we'll be running a wacky geek-themed quiz, complete with genuine GeekSoc prizes for the winning team. There'll be questions about as many different geeky topics as we can manage, and it should be positively thrilling!

And, of course, there'll be plenty of time to meet new people and discuss all the most important questions in our modern world: Kirk or Picard? Who's your favourite Doctor? What's the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything? What have I got in my pocketses?

We'll be in NewSci 0.08 from 18:15 on Thursday the 24th of September, and we're back in the same room at the same time most Thursdays! Show starts at 18:45.

How to get here

You can find the New Science (NewSci) building at the bottom of Chancellor's Drive, just down from the Julian Study Centre. If you can't use the main steps to the doors, there is a ramp that heads further down the hill and then doubles back. Room 0.08 is through the main doors, then left through a set of double doors, then down the corridor a little way and through a door on the right. For the first few weeks, we'll try to bring along our GeekSoc roller banner, so it should be easy to spot us!
