🎤 New academic year, New Writing Live!

New Writing Live is back on 1 October in celebration of National Poetry Day!

Join us at Dorothy’s Bar for an evening of live readings from UEA students, alumni, and staff, headlined by James McDermott, LDC Creative Writing Lecturer.

📣 Students: share your work!

We’re inviting UEA undergraduates and postgraduates to read their own work:

Micro-fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, short stories, or extracts from plays/novels
Must be readable in around 5 minutes
Music can’t be accommodated due to the tech setup

Students selected will be emailed a few days before the event to be assigned a slot.

Cost: Free! No ticket required—just turn up! Dorothy’s Bar will be open throughout for drinks and snacks.

Who can attend: All UEA students (undergraduate, postgraduate) and staff.

About James McDermott

James McDermott is a playwright, poet and screenwriter, and a UEA alumni and Creative Writing lecturer. His work includes plays for theatres and BBC Radio 4, poetry collections including ‘Father Myself’ and ‘Wild Life’, and writing for EastEnders and Doctor Who audio dramas.

New Writing Live is a student-run series celebrating UEA’s emerging writers alongside Creative Writing academics and alumni.
