UEA Sub Aqua is UEA’s own scuba diving, free diving and snorkelling club. We accept everybody, whether you're terrified of swimming, or have been diving for years - we want to allow you to reach new depths!!!

Members are offered the chance to take part in try-dives, regular pool sessions, or even complete a course with either PADI, BSAC or Raid. If you're looking to give Scuba diving a go, start with us!

Many are put off scuba diving by the costs. While we cannot deny it can be expensive, we can help you get a number of discounts and even ask your school to give you a grant. While it can still be expensive, it's unlikely you'll find a cheaper option even after you graduate.

This year, we have an exciting calendar of activities lined up! Expect themed sports nights, two international dive trips, and plenty of local and domestic sub-aqua adventures across the UK. We’ll also be hosting movie nights, beach clean-ups, arts and crafts sessions, and plenty of nights out to keep everyone connected.

Inclusivity is at the heart of what we do – whether you’re an experienced diver or completely new, there’s something for you. Plus, the university helps subsidise the cost of diving to make it more affordable for everyone.

Stay tuned to our socials for all the latest updates!

The Real Cost of Sport

The 'Real Cost of Sport' initiative, a project reviewed and rebranded by the Students' Union in partnership with uea+sport, aims to provide prospective members with a comprehensive overview of the potential costs of joining their chosen sports club. This year, I have worked closely with the clubs to ensure these tables are as accurate and up-to-date as possible.

This guide is intended to serve as a general reference. The compulsory cost includes the uea+sport membership fee of £55, which is a one-time payment that covers membership across all clubs.

When considering additional expenses, it is important to note that some clubs may not have any extra costs, while others might incur additional fees. These costs often depend on the level of competitiveness within the sport; recreational or social participation is generally less expensive. Additionally, some equipment, such as shoes or gum shields, may be used across multiple sports, potentially reducing overall expenses.

For any specific questions or further information about a particular club, please contact the club directly or contact us at union.opportunities@uea.ac.uk for more details about the project.

All the best,

Olivia Hunt
