System.out.println("Hello World!")

We are the academic society for the School of Computing Sciences. We support the learning process for students who want to learn about programming, hardware and software, making your own apps & video games, and all things tech related.

Support is also provided to those seeking internships/year in industry placements in our society, as well as helping you network and build up your programming portfolio. (If you have one. If you don't, that's totally alright, but people think you sound really impressive when you say you have one.)

We will have plenty events in the upcoming 2022-2023 spread, for all years. Some will be socially distanced, some won't be, and there will definitely be something that tickles your fancy. Things such as...

  • Hackathons, Coding Marathons and Game Jams - How fast do you think you can work? Go Solo or work with a team to create all sorts of amazing things. All skill levels welcome. Can join in-person (on campus labs) or from your own PC. Rewards might even be a possibility...
  • Society Crossover Events - Had enough of all your computer science coursemates arguing about which is better; Linux or Windows? We have plenty of plans in place to crossover with multiple societies, to participate in Game Tournaments, Debates, Wine and Cheese night anyone? You never know, but the list is basically limitless.
  • Movie Nights & Video Game Socials - in person and online - fancy losing in Super Smash? Maybe trying to prove you really are the best in Mario Kart inside and outside of your family? We got you covered.
  • Study Support & Guidance - we've all been stuck on a coding problem we thought'd be easy. Maybe you put a semi-colon in the wrong place. Maybe you wish you never started learning C++ at all. We have plenty of people who can help you out.
  • And more to come!

If you're new to UEA, or looking for a society which is surprisingly against archetypes and social expectations, consider dropping into the UEA CSS and see if it's for you.

Looking forward to seeing you there, join us on our Discord if you fancy a chat.
