Who are we...?

As UEA's Club of the Year 2017, UEAWFC is an amazing club to be a part of. Get involved in training sessions, BUCs league matches, awesome socials including meals, laser tag, tournaments and occasionally drinking plenty, whilst meeting a really great bunch of people always up for a laugh along the way. We welcome all abilities - from superstars to those who have never kicked a ball before. We have two teams in the BUCs league as well as a local league 11 aside team and 7 aside team, meaning we can get more girls than ever involved in university football, and being part of a friendly, inclusive club. We provide both a competitive environment and a social one, allowing members to choose how much they'd like to be involved. There are also opportunities to fundraise, become a coach and improve skills outside the sport to help boost CVs!

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for all the latest details and photos.

Games

We have four teams within the club. Our BUCs first and second teams have matches on Wednesday afternoons against other universities. In the 2021/22 season, our 2s fought hard in having a strong finish in the league, while our 1s had a fantastic season that ended in them securing promotion.

We have a 7 aside development team that play in the Norfolk Women's and Girls 7-aside league, with fixtures played on a Sunday afternoon. This is captained by a committee member and an elected team member. This is a stepping stone for many as several members have improved and developed, and have been selecting into our second and first teams.

We have a Sunday league 11aside team that compete in division 1 of the Norfolk Women's and Girls League every Sunday afternoon, after securing promotion in the 2021/22 season. This team is ran by Head Coach Tom Peck and Assitant Coach Lewis Good who helped guide the girls to the League Cup final in the 2022/23 season. The team trains on Monday evenings and cements our development pathway from beginners to 11 aside football.

For BUCs games, kick-off is usually 2pm, with some games played at home and some away. The kit is provided on the day of the match.

Trials will be held at the beginning of the year for the BUCS squads however they do not cement the teams and are held mainly to provide the coaches with a chance to identify each player's abilities ready for the games that are scheduled so early in the academic year.

Team selections vary each week with commitment, effort, ability, attitude, fitness and availability all being taken into account. Do not be disheartened if you don't make the squad in the first week or two, this does not mean you will not in the future. Our coaching staff have the tough job of selections each week alongside the captains.

Outside of games, our beginner sessions on Saturday teach the fundamentals through fun and engaging games.

Socials

Our socials are some of the best on-campus with great organisation and a variety of events. We cater for all individuals including regular sober socials and we have zero tolerance for peer pressure.

Within the club, we have members who are only interested in the social side as well as players who attend socials too. Everyone is welcome! Once again, all social info is posted into our Facebook group (link above).

*You are not required to drink alcohol at any socials, if you at any point feel forced to drink please talk to a committee member and we will deal with the individuals involved.

Additional Cost of Sport Ranges

The additional cost of sport project, which was created by the Students’ Union, alongside uea+sport, is designed to give prospective members information on the range of costs they may face in joining their chosen sport.

This range should be taken as guidance. For compulsory costs, this price includes uea+sport membership which is £55, and you only need to pay once to join all of our clubs.

When considering additional costs, some clubs may have none and others may have further costs. This is often dependent on the level of competitiveness for the sport you get involved in, and so recreational or socially playing may be cheaper. You may also have equipment which can be used between multiple sports, for example shoes or gum shields.

For any questions, please ask the sport club for specific further information, or union.opportunities@uea.ac.uk for further information on the project.

Many thanks,

Luke Johnson
