What's on offer?

Weekend Trips

UEA Mountaineering wants to offer you the opportunity to join us in scrambling, hiking, rambling, walking, and climbing some of the most beautiful mountains and trails that the UK's prized National Parks have to offer. With our weekend trips, swap out your books for walking boots as we get away from the hustle and bustle of university life, meet new people and visit idyllic locations including the Lake District, Snowdonia, Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, Cairngorms, and Glencoe.

With routes catering to all experiences and levels, all are welcome to join us in exploring the highest and prettiest parts of England, Scotland, and Wales. Led by experienced walk leaders, weekend trips offer the perfect opportunity to walk outdoors and learn the skills of map reading, navigation and leadership or simply admire the beautiful countryside and national parks of the UK.

Day Walks

As well as these amazing weekend trips, with our partner society UEA Day Walks Society, we offer single day trips around Norfolk visiting some of Norfolk's stunning National Heritage sites. Come rain or shine, we promise a fantastic day outside. Find out more here.

And More!

In addition to all of that, we also offer a special Christmas Trip to finish the first semester in style and end the year with both a week-long Easter Scotland Trip and an International Trip available to all members along with a wide array of socials. Socials planned for the upcoming 2022/23 year include BBQ, Bonfires, Quiz nights, Laser Tag, Trampolining, Christmas Meal, and the always popular Wine and Cheese night!

We are really looking forward to seeing some fresh new faces, whether you have a plethora of experience, or whether it's your first time walking in the UK. Everyone is welcome. See you on the hillside!

The Real Cost of Sport

The 'Real Cost of Sport' initiative, a project reviewed and rebranded by the Students' Union in partnership with uea+sport, aims to provide prospective members with a comprehensive overview of the potential costs of joining their chosen sports club. This year, I have worked closely with the clubs to ensure these tables are as accurate and up-to-date as possible.

This guide is intended to serve as a general reference. The compulsory cost includes the uea+sport membership fee of £55, which is a one-time payment that covers membership across all clubs.

When considering additional expenses, it is important to note that some clubs may not have any extra costs, while others might incur additional fees. These costs often depend on the level of competitiveness within the sport; recreational or social participation is generally less expensive. Additionally, some equipment, such as shoes or gum shields, may be used across multiple sports, potentially reducing overall expenses.

For any specific questions or further information about a particular club, please contact the club directly or contact us at union.opportunities@uea.ac.uk for more details about the project.

All the best,

Olivia Hunt
