The big bosses and their friends in parliament would like us to believe that competition and the inequality it creates, is the natural order of things and there is nothing you can do to change it. Their lackeys in the universities like here at UEA, push cynical post-modernist ideas, placing the onus on the individual and your interpretation of the world, rather than the conditions you find yourself in. These ideas feed the culture war whipped up by right populists like Farage, but they also poison the left and hold back the labour movement. Under capitalism, most workers are exhausted, time-poor, and susceptible to the lies they are fed by the ruling class through their control of the press and our schools and universities. This is something the ruling class must do in order to protect their privileged position. But as history shows, the oppressed are capable of freeing themselves from a system in crisis, but must be armed with the correct ideas. Marx' Dialectical Materialism holds the key to understanding the world, but also changing it.
