The psychological effects of nature - a talk by Jordan Harold
Why does nature matter to our minds? In this talk we'll take a journey through the psychological relationships we hold with the natural world. From hedgehogs to bird song, and from the cloud forests of Ecuador to the familiar waters of the UEA lake, we'll uncover how nature supports our mental health and enriches human experience. Expect flora, fauna and funga – and an insight into why reconnecting with nature might be one of the most important things we can do.
About me: I am a lecturer in psychology with a passion for environmental psychology and science communication. I have worked with organisations such as the United Nations Environment Programme and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, helping scientists communicate their findings in ways that actually make sense to policymakers. When not teaching or collaborating on science communication, you might find me in the wilds of Norfolk trying to spot a fen raft spider or a swallowtail butterfly, or more likely simply helping a snail cross a road.
