Quaker Action Society:
We are an inclusive group of people of all varieties: whatever your gender, sexuality, disability/neurodiversity, or background - you are welcome.
We actively uphold and affirm LGBTQ+ identities.
We hold Quaker Meetings, discussions and action projects that represent our values, here at UEA.
Meeting for Worship is where we sit in a shared silence, waiting together, listening to the leading or promptings that have been given to us. If someone feels moved to speak, they stand (if they are able) and share what has been put on their hearts with the group. This is known amongst Quakers as 'ministry'. The Meeting ends when two Quakers shake hands. Although most Quakers are Christian, we recognise that not all are, and anyone from any belief background, including those without a belief in God, is most welcome.
"True worship may be experienced at any time; in any place – alone on the hills or in the busy daily life – we may find God, in whom we live and move and have our being. But this individual experience is not sufficient, and in a meeting held in the Spirit there is a giving and receiving between its members, one helping another with or without words. So there may come a wider vision and a deeper experience."
