Advocacy for All

Hello! My name is Ran (they/them) and I am a disabled student, and I understand what it is like to struggle in education due to a disability/additional barrier.

I would like to begin a student’s with mobility issues group on campus, to help unite those with similar struggles. As a part-time wheelchair user, I know what it is like to struggle getting around UEA’s campus and I believe that a group will help us that struggle with getting around to share our experiences and tips for getting around the concrete jungle! Whether that is sharing when lifts are out of order and finding alternative routes or showing others how to get into certain buildings via the not-so-obvious accessible routes! Having a group that understands and can help to advocate for each other is so important when facing additional barriers towards your education.

When I am not struggling with my dynamic mobility issues, I enjoy playing field hockey, and, despite my limitations, I have so much passion for this sport. If elected, I will continue to raise awareness for dynamic disabilities and push for more disability inclusion within sport, not just within the disability history month. Continuing adaptive sports year-round is just one way that me can include those with disabilities within sport.

Thank you :)
