Make UEA Great Again!

Hi, I’m Bhaskar! Persuing master's in Law at UEA. I’m running for the position of Postgraduate Officer because I believe that postgraduate students deserve a strong voice and a supportive community at UEA.

Throughout my organizational journey, I've been driven by a profound commitment to service and leadership. From providing free legal aid to marginalized individuals to leading student groups in remote health initiatives. At the Legal Aid Clinic, I've orchestrated legal aid camps and surveys to tackle systemic challenges. I've contributed to rural development projects, organizing training sessions for farmers and laborers. My journey epitomizes a dedication to making a positive impact and fostering inclusive growth, guided by principles of service and leadership. Through these experiences, I have developed the skills and knowledge that I think are essential for the role of Postgraduate Officer.

If I’m elected, I will work hard to achieve the following goals:

1. I am dedicated to organizing regular formal gatherings for postgraduate studies. These events will serve as valuable opportunities for students across departments to connect, fostering networking and the exchange of ideas and knowledge. Together, we will create a supportive environment that empowers postgraduate students to build meaningful connections and enhance their academic experiences.

2. I am committed to coordinating with the relevant departments and the union to enhance employability events and job fairs for postgraduate students. Together, we will strive to create a dynamic and supportive environment that empowers postgraduate students to achieve their professional goals and thrive in their chosen fields.

3. I will oversee the fair distribution of the Union's resources, especially for the Postgraduate SU, by guaranteeing transparency and accountability in budgeting and spending, ensuring that the postgraduate student community is informed.

4. I will work to ensure the Union receives adequate development and resources to enhance student welfare, advocating for increased funding and support for postgraduate research, teaching, and professional growth.

5. I will make a roadmap to boost postgraduate student involvement in the Union's campaigns by establishing networks of students passionate about key issues like mental health, employability, diversity, and sustainability, thus fostering more active engagement.

6. I will collaborate with the Union's clubs, societies, and peer support groups to ensure they meet the needs of postgraduate students. This involves offering guidance, training, and acknowledgment for their valuable contributions to enhancing the postgraduate student experience.

7. I'll ensure the Union's services change as our needs change. I'll ask postgraduate students what they like and don't like about the Union's facilities, events, and offers through surveys and talks.

I hope that you will support me and vote for me as your Postgraduate Officer. I’m always happy to hear from you and answer any questions you might have. You can contact me at b.bukkanahalli-shivanna@uea.ac.uk.

Voting starts on 11th March and ends on 14th March so make sure you vote!
