For the Students, Not the Exploiters

Hi! I'm Sam (he/him), and I want to be one of your non-portfolio officers (again). I have been in the Labour Society committee for almost two years now, creating the social media posts such as 'The UEA Guide to Boycott Against a Palestinian Genocide' and raising awareness about mental health, Holocaust Memorial Day and UEA's history with RAAC concrete.

As Non-Portfolio Officer, I will campaign for:

UEA to end its contract with Circuit Laundry

First year students are forced year after year to pay extortionate prices just to wash their clothes. Some universities run their own laundrettes which are cheaper for students, which is so important during the Cost of Living Crisis.

An enhanced UEA Sport Social League

Even though the Norfolk FA has social leagues, so many people don't know about them or how they work. Almost every other university runs a 'social league', in which halls, friends, societies and clubs can create small sports teams to play against each other. These are so popular due to the fun, non-competitive nature of the league, and it gives students the opportunity to play a sport without a training schedule, intense coaches, cliques or experience in the sport they want to play.

UEA Divestment in unethical industries

UEA's investment strategy allows them to invest in companies who make money from weapons manufacturing, pornography, tobacco, gambling, alcohol and fossil fuels. Should our education really be reliant on industries that kill societies, the environment, and people?
