It's time to TRANS-form the SU

Do you feel that the SU hasn't properly represented you? As an organisation made for and run by students, it should protect your interests above all. In the four years I have been here, so much of the student experience has been lost. The summer beer garden has disappeared, booking rooms for movies or revision has become  more difficult. As C&D officer, I shall  tackle these issues, and more! The SU needs work, and I am here to do it!

As a queer student with learning disabilities, it is encouraging to see the action that the SU has taken for queer students and in some ways for those with disabilities - but it hasn’t been enough. There are posters everywhere about renting and help, yet when prices rise there were few interventions from the SU, doing little to change student experiances. Fresh ideas are necessary to keep this university afloat.

I used to belive that student politics weren't worth being involved in or voting for. But I want to show why this isn't true and be a turning point! Vote for a candidate you can trust to represent you

Our SU MUST:

Give the students what they want!

  • Students deserve low costs and high quality from our Student Union and our University. Being a student should be affordable, and your SU should fight for that.
  • Bring back midweek club nights! For those of you not old enough to remember, UEA once had themed club nights every Tuesday.

 Be more accountable!

  •  Whilst our SU runs around like a headless chicken fighting for issues that are not within its remit to change, students are left suffering. Fighting for these issues is why the Students Union exists. Every single vote is crucial. .
  • UEASU has pushed through various policies that haven’t been questioned, or even publicised. I will ensure that regular meetings are held that detail the changes we have made.

  Clean up the bureaucracy!

  • It’s too difficult to read these dense, bureaucratic documents. They are riddled with contradictions and their own rules are often broken by those in power.
  • These confusing rules are too often used as a stick to beat students with. We need an open, available, and transparent officer to make the Code of Conduct and the Byelaws work for you, not for them.

It’s time for real change. As your C&D officer, I pledge to:

  • Ensure the policies you want are heard and pushed through.
  • Have meetings to make ensure the Union stays accountable.
  • Make food and drink more affordable on campus
  • Make crucial mental health support more accessible to those in need.
  • Create a new, more transparent beginners guide to Union Council.
  • Rewrite the code of conduct and bylaws.
  • Push for an overhaul of the room booking system.
  • Diversify our club nights, and make them more fun! DAMN GOOD SHALL RETURN!

Thank you for your time.
