As a disabled person, with multiple different disabilities, the promotion of an accessible campus for all students is at the heart of what I want to achieve as disabled students officer. I believe that accessibility should be at the core of what  the the student union provide to is student

As accessibility officer to the drama and musical theatre society and equality and diversity officer of UEA kayak club, I have promoted the needs of disabled members and worked with committee members to support making both societies as accessible as possible. There are current limitations on how committees can support disabled students, this is due to the lack of funding given by the SU. I hope to increase Grant money available to clubs and societies who want to with disabled student offices to increase diversity in their club or society. 

I also want to increase education around disability, at all levels of the SU and make sure that the rights of disabled students are given the same amount of priority as other minority groups in the SU. Having better training around disability for all club and society members will help facilitate this. 

More that anything else I just want to show that disabled students are important and are of Great benefit to the University and the SU, but their skills can only truly be seen once accessibility and diversity are at the heart of the SU.
