Giving you a voice.

My name is Jewel Ike-Obioha. I am a PGT student in the school of Philosophy, Politics, Language and Communications (PPL). I am vying for the position of PG Education Officer because I am passionate about being a voice for the PG students. Most people from far and wide come to the University of East Anglia for the culture and to gain the schooling experience. The PG students deserve the opportunity to be heard and create meaningful experiences while in school. I believe that I am capable of being that voice.

For the past couple of months, I have observed and also been an active part of the PG Assembly and Committee serving as the Chairperson. During these times, I have come to the realisation that some students don't understand how they can be a part of the culture and benefit from the SU body as a whole. I believe that with the help of the students and the union, we can bridge the gap that exist between the PG community and other aspects of the school's culture and history thereby getting more PG students engaged and active on and off campus. With the little working knowledge I have gained (and will hopefully build on in the coming months,) in coordinating PG related issues, I believe that this platform will best position me to continually be of greater help to the PG community. Also, I believe that standing for this position will make me a leading example to female students of colour nudging them that they too can achieve their goals whilst still in school if they can only put their mind and effort to it.

With the help of the PG Committee and Assembly, I will ensure that the funds allocated to the community are used judiciously for the benefit of it's members. I will also work with the communications team to further highlight and spotlight individuals and groups within the community that are doing notable work.

My people-person personality makes me a great candidate for this role. A vote for me is a vote for your inclusion and visibility. Thank you.
