Formed by their mutual understanding that no other soundtrack could ever top THPS, The 900 gives you a reason for your back to hurt in the morning. With the approval of the Birdman himself, as well as Goldfinger’s John Feldmann, they’re ready to kickflip into every big banger from THPS1 to American Wasteland.

THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE The Birthday Massacre are a six-piece from Toronto who have spent 25 years building one of the most distinctive sounds in dark alternative music — synth-driven and guitar-heavy, melodic and dissonant, equal parts nostalgia and dread. Their music lives in the space between a pop hook and a knife's edge, drawing on the textures of '80s Synthwave and New Wave, the weight of Industrial and Dark Wave, and a visual sensibility shaped by horror/fantasy cinema and fine art. Live, the band translates that world completely. Chibi is a magnetic presence at the center of it — her voice moving from delicate to devastating within a single song — while the interplay between dual guitars, keys, and driving bass creates a sound that hits harder in a room than it does on record. The show is immersive, atmospheric, and visceral: the kind of set that feels designed as an experience from the first note to the last. What makes a Birthday Massacre show something beyond a concert is the relationship between the band and the people who show up for them. This is a fanbase built over decades through genuine connection — the band has always met their audience where they are, personally and without distance. Walking into a TBM show feels less like attending a performance and more like arriving somewhere you already belong.

WEDNESDAY 13Wednesday 13 (born Joseph Poole on August 12, 1976, in Charlotte, North Carolina – But don’t dare call him that) has established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in horror rock, earning his moniker "The Duke of Spook" through decades of creating music that blends horror themes with punk rock and metal. His musical journey began in the early 1990s with Maniac Spider Trash, an early horror punk project that laid the foundation for his signature style. While this project was relatively short-lived, it served as a crucial stepping stone in developing his horror-influenced musical direction. In 1996, he formed Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13, a project that would become a significant influence in the horror punk scene. The band released several albums between 1996 and 2002, including "The Late, Late, Late Show," "Night of the Living Drag Queens," and "Songs from the Recently Deceased." These releases established Wednesday's trademark combination of horror movie references, dark humor, and punk rock energy. The band would later reunite for select performances, showcasing the enduring appeal of their original material. The formation of Murderdolls in 2002 marked a significant evolution in Wednesday's career. This collaboration with Joey Jordison of Slipknot brought his music to a broader audience within the metal community. Their debut album "Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls" featured both new material and reworked versions of Frankenstein Drag Queens songs, introducing Wednesday's songwriting to a larger audience. The band toured extensively during this period, including supporting slots with major acts and building a particularly strong following in the UK and Japan. After a period of inactivity, Murderdolls returned in 2010 with "Women and Children Last," showcasing a heavier, more metal-oriented sound while maintaining their horror elements. This second era of the band featured guest appearances from artists like Mick Mars of Mötley Crüe before the project concluded. Wednesday 13's solo career officially launched in 2005 with "Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying, and the Dead." This album established his solo sound, which initially drew heavily from his horror punk roots while incorporating elements of glam metal and hard rock. His theatrical presentation began to evolve during this period, developing the elaborate stage shows that would become his trademark. Throughout his solo career, Wednesday has been supported by various talented musicians who have helped shape his sound. Notable members have included bassist Nate Manor, drummer Kyle Castronovo, whose powerful playing style helped drive the band's heavier direction, and longtime guitarist Roman Surman, who has been crucial in developing the band's sound across multiple albums. Other significant contributors have included drummer Johnny Chops, guitarist Jack Tankersley, and bassist Piggy D (known for his later work with Rob Zombie), who performed during the "Transylvania 90210" era. His musical evolution has been particularly notable in his later releases. While maintaining his horror themes, Wednesday's sound has grown increasingly heavy and complex. "Necrophaze" (2019) marked a significant step in this evolution, incorporating more electronic and industrial elements while featuring collaborations with artists including Alice Cooper and Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil. The album's production by Michael Spreitzer of DevilDriver helped create a more polished, modern metal sound. "Horrifier" (2022) continued this progression with some of his heaviest material to date, with a new album (TBA) announced for 2025. Beyond his main projects, Wednesday has explored different musical territories with side projects including Bourbon Crow, which showcased his appreciation for outlaw country music with a horror twist, and Gunfire 76, which explored a more straightforward rock 'n' roll sound influenced by artists like Hanoi Rocks and the New York Dolls. His live performances have evolved significantly over the years, growing from basic horror punk shows into elaborate theatrical productions. Modern Wednesday 13 concerts feature multiple costume changes, sophisticated lighting designs, video projections, and various practical effects that enhance the horror movie atmosphere. His setlists skillfully blend fan favorites with newer material, showcasing both his horror punk roots and more recent metal-oriented songs. Wednesday's influence on the horror rock scene extends beyond music to include merchandise design and visual aesthetics. His artwork and merchandise often incorporate vintage horror movie poster designs and his own artistic vision, creating unique collectibles that appeal to both music and horror fans. His stage costumes and makeup designs have evolved to become increasingly elaborate while maintaining his signature horror aesthetic.

Synthpop, minimal wave, post-punk, goth, new romantic — fans and critics alike have dug deeply into their vintage thesauruses to describe the beguiling work of Nation of Language. And if you can’t precisely define the band, that’s the point. Frontman Ian Richard Devaney has become prodigious in expanding what synthesizer-driven music can evoke, such that his output is as much an extrasensory journey as it is an all-too-human destination. With that experience in mind, he wrote the band’s fourth album — the spectral, spacious Dance Called Memory — in the most humble of ways: chipping away at melancholia by sitting around and strumming his guitar. “It’s a great way to distract yourself,” he says, “when you are depressed.”

Nation of Language’s first two albums, Introduction, Presence (2020), and A Way Forward (2021), came as pandemic godsends: gorgeous, relatable soundtracks to our collective doldrums. But it was their last LP, Strange Disciple (2023), that catapulted the group from cultural standouts to critical darlings, with the album being named Rough Trade’s Album of the Year. With that release, Pitchfork wrote that the band “are learning what it means to get bigger and better.”

This is Devaney’s calling: soulfully translating individual despair into a comforting, collective mourning. This uncannily pervades the album. The single “Now That You’re Gone,” which radiates and reverberates with a devastating wistfulness, was inspired by witnessing his godfather’s tragic death from ALS, and his parents’ role as caretakers for this ailing friend. “To be a caretaker — transforming your home into a kind of hospital wing and structuring your life around the dire needs of another — is such a difficult, powerful act of love and friendship,” Devaney says. “It’s made more difficult by our economic system that doesn’t seem to value this in any way commensurate with how hard it is.” At its heart, the song is a reflection of how friends can be there for each other, and also highlights a theme throughout the record: the pain and lost promise of friendships that fall apart.

This concept is echoed in the track “I’m Not Ready for the Change,” referencing the psychic dyspepsia that repeatedly reincarnates throughout our lives. Says Devaney: “I came across a photo from a party — it was filled with couples that were no longer together, friends who had gone their separate ways. It wasn’t from very long ago, but the sheer impossibility of such a gathering struck me in the heaviest way. Sometimes it feels like the pages of life’s book are turning faster than you can comprehend them.”

In approaching the recording of Dance Called Memory, the band once again collaborated with friend and Strange Disciple producer Nick Millhiser (LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!). “What’s so great about working with Nick is his ability to make us feel like we don’t need to do what might be expected of us, or to chase any particular sound,” says synth player Aidan Noell, who, along with bass player Alex MacKay, rounds out the Nation of Language lineup. As a result, they imbued Dance Called Memory with a shifted palette — sampling chopped-up drum breaks on “I’m Not Ready for the Change” for a touch of Loveless-era My Bloody Valentine, or smashing all of the percussion of “In Another Life” through a synthesizer to cast a shade of early-2000s electronic music.

Ultimately, the hope was to weave raw vulnerability and humanity into a synth-heavy album. “There is a dichotomy between the Kraftwerk school of thought and the Brian Eno school of thought, each of which I’ve been drawn to at different points. I’ve read about how Kraftwerk wanted to remove all of the humanity from their music, but Eno often spoke about wanting to make synthesized music that felt distinctly human,” Devaney says. “As much as Kraftwerk is a sonically foundational influence, with this record I leaned much more towards the Eno school of thought. That this thing should be as unvarnished and warm as possible. In this era quickly being defined by the rise of AI supplanting human creators I’m focusing more on the human condition, and I need the underlying music to support that.”

Despite the heavy themes at its core, Devaney insists, “Instead of hopelessness, I want to leave the listener with a feeling of us really seeing one another, that our individual struggles can actually unite us in empathy.”

The hectic, hugely entertaining, and definitive story of the wonderful & amateurish British university gig scene that launched the career of some of the world’s most famous bands.

As rock exploded around the world and the album era began, so young bands and solo acts would sling their gear into their trusty Ford Transits and bomb up and down the new motorway system to university and polytechnic campuses all over the UK, honing their sound and hoping to get signed.

A list of acts who proved themselves on this circuit reads like a who’s who of rock music: Pink Floyd, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Black Sabbath, Queen, The Kinks, Dire Straits, AC/DC, Genesis and Nick Drake all did their time in sweaty and badly ventilated dressing rooms in places like Hull University and Sheffield Poly, and even Paul McCartney, after the Beatles fell apart, took his new band Wings out on the circuit to get them road tested.

Now, for the first time, veteran music journalist Paul Sexton sets out to this extraordinary moment in British music history. Tapping into his huge network of contacts in the music industry, not just with the bands but with the social secretaries who booked the gigs (lots of whom would go on to run record labels and manage huge acts themselves), Rock Goes to College is a fascinating, raucous ride of a book, crammed full of incredible, never-before-heard stories of the beginnings of some of the most famous acts on the planet.

Set in The LCR itself, this event places Norwich at the heart of that story. The LCR stands as one of the very venues that welcomed these touring artists, a space where reputations were forged in front of student audiences, long before arenas and commercial circuits took hold.

In conversation with long-time LCR staff member Gavin Hudson, whose first-hand experience brings an invaluable on-the-ground perspective, Sexton’s account will be enriched by the realities of running and sustaining a venue at the heart of this scene. The conversation will be chaired by Professor George McKay, a leading academic in popular music and culture, whose work offers a wider cultural and historical lens on the period.

Together, they will explore not just the mythology of these gigs, but the logistics, personalities and occasional chaos behind them.

In 2004 in a small town in eastern Scotland, a bunch of lads decided to start an epic metal band with songs about pirates. That band was called Battleheart and they had no idea what they were doing, but they managed to release a couple of demos and get a bit of a local following. In 2007, the band’s work caught the attention of world-renowned Austrian record label Napalm Records, and after changing their name to Alestorm, the band was signed for a 5 album record deal. The debut album Captain Morgan’s Revenge released in 2008 instantly catapulted the band to fame in the European metal world, leading to massive tours supporting famous bands such as Turisas, Sabaton, Dragonforce, Eluveitie, and more. The band quickly found themselves being booked for the most prestigious festivals in Europe, such as Wacken Open Air, Bloodstock Open Air, Graspop Metal Meeting, and Sweden Rock Festival. Alestorm’s reputation continued to spread over the years following the release of their 2nd album Black Sails at Midnight in 2009, leading to worldwide tours across all of North America, Australia, and Europe. Several albums and successful festival appearances followed. In summer of 2022, the band released their 7th and latest album Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum, which managed to hit Number 1 in the Hungarian album charts for 2 weeks straight and stayed in the top 10 for several more. After the release, Alestorm embarked on the biggest festival and concert tour of their career, including a massive European headlining tour in January 2023 playing to as many as 4600 people every night. Anybody familiar with Hail The Sun will know there’s always a great deal of meaning beneath the surface. Theirs are songs that probe the very nature of existence, that strive to find the answers to the fundamental questions that being human raises, and that don’t flinch away from any form of self-reflection whatsoever. That’s been the case since the band—lead vocalist Donovan Melero, guitarists Shane Gann and Aric Garcia, bassist John Stirrat and drummer Allen Casillas—formed in Chico, CA in 2009, but which is especially the case on cut. turn. fade. back., their seventh full-length.  From the moment the post-hardcore lilt of “The Drooling Class” kicks this record off until the passionate intensity of “War Crimes” brings it to an end in a cacophony that emulates the violent conflicts that inspired it, cut. turn. fade. back. becomes part of the band’s own cycle—re-establishing who they are while simultaneously (but subtly) reshaping their identity. Just listen to the spiteful, coruscating energy of “There’s No Place In Heaven For Fakes”, the shapeshifting, surround-sound production of “Insensitive Tempo” and “Blight”, and the almost constant crescendo of “I Can Tell By The Scars” and it’s clear that Hail The Sun are as intentional and fervent about their art as they ever have been.

“It doesn’t matter if people take away the intended message from these songs,” says Melero, “and I’m certainly not going to police it, but we do, as always, want to encourage critical thinking. Fifteen years in, I love that we've been allowed to have this growing fan base to speak to. I feel very grateful and fortunate, and I hope that it keeps carrying us forward and continues to be the thing that we can sustain life from.”

Malesha O'Garro, known as Lady Leshurr, is a rapper and producer whose oft-confrontational rhymes are belied by a buoyant melodicism. The native of Birmingham, England made her recorded debut in the early 2000s, during her early teenage years, with the first of numerous mixtapes -- her primary format -- and has since refined her witty and sometimes high-speed wordplay while drawing from U.K. garage and grime.

After she fended off multiple labels that dangled offers with too many artistic compromises, O'Garro reached a broader audience on her own in 2015, when the one-take video for the fourth episode in her "Queen's Speech" series went viral with plays numbering in the tens of millions. Five "Queen's Speech" tracks were compiled in 2016, the year she signed to major label.

The four-piece were formed by three schoolfriends (vocalist/guitarist Rohan Fletcher, lead guitarist (and Jet Black’s producer) Adam Sanders, and drummer Oli Williams who Fletcher and Sanders nabbed from another school band). The trio all chose to study at the same university where they plotted the plight of their new band together. Bassist George Green arrived when Fletchr Fletchr were already almost fully-formed, ushered on stage for a show merely days after joining.

Naming your band after the vocalist follows a curious lineage (Van Halen, Florence & The Machine, Mumford & Sons, Ben Folds Five to name but a few), yet the actual reasoning is somewhat sweeter. Firstly, it’s in tribute to Rohan’s father, who passed away as the band’s biggest fan and source of encouragement. And secondly, when Adam moved into Rohan’s family home, working at their pub alongside Rohan, it was commented by friends that the pair had become almost inseparable, with Adam welcomed as a genuine part of the family Fletchr – and thus Fletchr Fletchr were born.

The very adult but relatable emotions of anxiety, love, and grief are already at the heart of what the band are writing their nascent songs about and are quickly finding a kinship with their young fanbase by tapping into those themes. None of it goes hidden, instead rocketed out verbatim in these dizzying guitar songs.

To create art for art’s sake is as pure an intention as a band can have. Writing a song that may never even see the light of day, but speaks to the very reason that you want to create in the first place. Putting joy, connection and fulfilment above anything else, and reaping the rewards that come from pushing such human endeavours. It’s a noble and selfless position to place yourself in, one that sits at the very root of why we all fall in love with music in the first place.

For As It Is, it was an absolute necessity to do things like this.

It was the only way that they could even attempt to recapture what once brought them together 13 years ago. A moment in time where Patty Walters, Ben Biss, Ali Testo, and Patrick Foley could reconvene for the first time in a long time, look back on the highest highs and lowest lows they have experienced together, and draw hope and inspiration from them once again.

Depth. An infinity loop of layers that unravel over time, reserved for the most observant of eyes – for those who long to dig beneath the surface. In the case of Charlie Rolfe, the importance of depth has come to define both the art that she creates – as frontwoman and lead vocalist of As Everything Unfolds – and recontextualise the art she holds dearest.

“As I’ve got older, I’ve appreciated the depth of anything in my life,” she explains. “I can never accept something for how it is on the surface, I have to understand it.” Whether it’s the allegories and social commentary in Blade Runner, the secrets of the vaults in the Fallout video games or My Chemical Romance’s seminal album ‘The Black Parade’ – which she will see performed live in its entirety on her 30th birthday – that desire for artistic depth flows through Charlie.

“I love absorbing information,” she adds. “I think that information is one of the most powerful tools in the world, and it’s undervalued by a lot of people. The more you know, the more you can potentially set yourself free.” Which brings us to just one thread of the concept behind ‘DID YOU ASK TO BE SET FREE?’, the first album from the Buckinghamshire quartet since signing to Century Media Records (Electric Callboy, Heriot). Set free from who? What? Where? The rigour of that question is what characterises the fluidity of As Everything Unfolds’ third full-length, which grapples with the tightrope between a dream state and reality. Should you walk the tightrope and risk leaving your safe haven of fantasy, or do you continue to live vicariously through other characters and worlds? Do you want to? Are you able to? Whatever the choice – conscious or otherwise – will you find ‘freedom’ at the end of the road? That never-ending labyrinth of questions, not answers, is what shapes the crux of the record.

Having supported new labelmates Electric Callboy and genre-bending experts Enter Shikari around the release of 2023’s ‘Ultraviolet’, tragedy hit camp As Everything Unfolds in August 2024 when drummer Jamie Gowers, who was also Charlie’s boyfriend, passed away. Midway through writing this album, with a dream support tour with Bury Tomorrow on the horizon, the quartet – completed by Adam Kerr (guitar), George Hunt (bass) and Jon Cassidy (keys) – banded together to re-ignite the flames of As Everything Unfolds.

“It’s going to be shit and it’s going to be horrible, but running away from it felt like the wrong thing to do.” recalls Charlie. “This is the hardest record we will ever have to do – how can we flip it into something we’re proud of, and give it the longevity and legacy it deserves?” Taking two years to give writing and pre-production the TLC it deserved, the album was recorded between London and Hawley across three weeks in February 2025.

Despite initially feeling – understandably – like a record of two halves, Charlie was never going to settle for anything other than a unified concept. While reconnected with old comforts like Thirty Seconds To Mars’ ‘A Beautiful Lie’, Donnie Darko and The Shining, it was when an old university mate recommended a book called ‘The Creative Act’ by super-producer Rick Rubin that inspired the eureka moment for this record.

“I really took the idea of subconscious, secondary-action writing,” she explains. “The stuff that comes out is tapping into a completely different part of your brain.” Leaning into her natural disposition as a multi-tasker, Charlie allowed the ideas to flow into her daily life rather than carving out time to force them out. ‘EDGE OF FOREVER’ was written on a 30-minute drive to Jon’s studio. ‘GASOLINE’ – arguably their best chorus since breakout hit ‘On The Inside’ – came while she was making a cheese toastie.

Sonically, ‘DID YOU ASK TO BE SET FREE?’ propels As Everything Unfolds out of the metalcore box into a band who have found their own sound at the crossroads of genres. “I’ve definitely steered away from metalcore, and I think we all have,” says Charlie. While the four members respectively obsessed over Bryan Adams, death metal, EDM and Depeche Mode, the fusion point with the DNA of the band is what makes the record so thrilling. You needn’t look further than the ’80s groove of ‘REVERIE’ or the DnB that spearheads ‘SET IN FLOW’.

Bury Tomorrow’s Dani Winter-Bates lends his rage to ‘WHAT YOU WANTED’, making for a glorious knee-jerk duality alongside Charlie’s angelic highs. ‘IDOLS’ is a roaring takedown of the folks who undeservedly sit on pedestals, augmented by the ‘Bean Soup Theory’ or ‘What About Me-ism’ where people demand and think anything in the world that isn’t catered to them is wrong, sometimes framing it as a personal attack.

Given how self-centred and egotistical society has become – with selflessness giving way to main character syndrome – these musings led Charlie to think about the world’s obsession with other people’s lives, and those who idolise other people in the first instance. “I don’t want people to idolise me, put me on a pedestal and think that I am this person that just does no wrong – because that’s literally impossible as a human being.”

Ultimately, ‘DID YOU ASK TO BE SET FREE?’ is an alternate lens through which Charlie examines reality, and the never-ending dichotomy between hiding and confronting it. As someone who experienced a lot of maladaptive daydreaming during the early days of her trauma – “I would sit [for hours] and think about hypothetical situations” – the tool and throughline was there for Charlie to tell her story, creating her own character for people to latch onto in the spirit of the albums, movies and videogames that she loves and often escapes to.

In a landscape that feels increasingly surface-level, As Everything Unfolds have pivoted in the other direction. “Rather than being just angry at the world, I just want people to see it in a different way and tell a story through it,” she elaborates. After a turbulent few years and a whole decade of honing their craft, there is a creative depth to ‘DID YOU ASK TO BE SET FREE?’ that ensures it’s their strongest album to date.

“It’s told its story, and I don’t feel like I need to take it any further,” she boldly declares. “It’s a capsule of that moment, of the things that happened to me, and I’m now in a new part of my life. We were together the other night and we all went, ‘This is the first time we all feel in quite a good place for a long time.’ That’s why drawing the line under it is important.

Chloe Slater’s debut album ‘Riot Youth’ seems to unfold in the fleeting, chaotic moments before doomsday – a coming of age record fit for the modern world. Across 10 tracks, Slater departs her signature, succinct commentary on the issues plaguing her generation: social divide, toxic culture, our dwindling sense of community, the climate crisis and, ultimately, thevampirish billionaire class cashing in on our collective misery.

Slater began carving out her witty yet pointed take on protest music with her debut EP, ‘You Can’t Put A Price On Fun’, in 2024, which was swiftly followed up with ‘Love Me Please’ the following year.
Both projects showcase her undeniable skill as a lyricist, introduce her as a promising new voice in indie rock, and see her take hold of a torch lit by great British songwriters before her – those who have also woven gold from the bleak circumstances of their own generations.

On ‘Riot Youth’, Slater shifts from these frank descriptions of society tomoments of gorgeous, gut-punching poetry, crafting anthemic choruses and intoxicating one-liners from the gripes many of us can barely muster the words for. In doing so, Slater has earned herself a devoted fanbase, racking up almost 2 million likes on TikTok alone.

Meanwhile, she’s quickly making a name for herself as a live performer not to miss, opening for Alessi Rose, Role Model and Courtney Bartnett over the past two years, as well as taking to the stage at Glastonbury and the prestigious BRITs Fringe showcase.
Beyond soundtracking this peculiar moment of history, Slater hopes ‘Riot Youth’ will shake us out of our tendency to seek constant distraction and instead prompt conversation. “We're upset about the way the world is, but we feel like we can't change it, so we go and listen to music,” she says.
“I just hope this is the kind of music that is comforting but not distracting. It’s addressing how people are feeling, and it's saying that we can make a change.”

Proud Kentucky rockers, Black Stone Cherry, emerge from a challenging few years triumphantly with a behemoth of an album, Screamin’ At The Sky (Mascot Records/Mascot Label Group), out now. The four-piece band’s eighth album explodes with urgently-emotive pop-rock hooks; heartfelt, redemptive lyrics; headbanging riffs; powerful dynamics; thunderous drums; and its most thrilling musicianship yet. The 12-song collection is also BSC’s biggest and best sounding album. The self-produced studio record was tracked at a classic Kentucky theater, and it sounds like the guys are smashing down the hammer of the gods.

“The thesis of this record is adapting and moving on. In the last few years, a lot of what I knew from childhood went away. I lost my father, and now I am the oldest living man in my family,” says vocalist/guitarist Chris Robertson. He continues: “There is a lot of darkness on this album—I bared my soul—but it always foreshadows light at the end of the tunnel.” Adds guitarist/backing vocalist Ben Wells: “We see something beautiful letting pain out—you come out a better person.”

In the past two decades, Black Stone Cherry has set a new standard for Southern rock, revitalizing the tradition with its burly riffs and stirring rock hooks. Since its formation in 2001, the four-piece brotherhood has remained Chris Robertson, vocals/guitar; Ben Wells, guitar/vocals; and John Fred Young, drums. Today, the band welcomes its dear friend Steve Jewell Jr. on bass/backing vocals. Steve is formerly of the blues-rock band OTIS who has opened for BSC many times. “I grew up around this music. Every time we play ‘Lonely Train,’ I remember driving with my dad and hearing it on the radio. I get emotional thinking about it,” Steve says. John Fred chimes in: “Steve is the young kid in the band—he doesn’t have as many wrinkles! He’s a monster player, and we have this insane chemistry with him.”

BSC’s last album, The Human Condition, released on October 30th, 2020 through Mascot Records, was their sixth consecutive No. 1 debut on the UK Rock Albums chart. The album’s lead single, “Again,” was the band’s biggest single in over 10 years in America, peaking at #15, and it was BSC’s highest charting record ever in Canada, also landing in the Top 15. The album racked-up 50 million streams worldwide, and “Again” amassed 20 million streams total.

Over the years, BSC has both headlined and rocked 12,000-cap arena shows and shared the stage with a diverse roster of superstars, including Alter Bridge, Theory of a Deadman, Def Leppard, Gov’t Mule, Nickelback, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bad Company, Mötorhead, Halestorm, Stone Temple Pilots, The Darkness, and ZZ Top. In 2018, BSC performed in front of 100,000 people at the Download Festival as main support to Guns N’ Roses. In 2021, the band played the UK’s venerated Royal Albert Hall, immortalized on 2022’s live DVD Live From The Royal Albert Hall…Y’All.

Screamin’ At The Sky features all-new material written collaboratively while on tour. When it came time to record, BSC decided to try something it’s always dreamed of doing: tracking an album at The Plaza Theater in Glasgow, Kentucky, a legendary 1020-seat venue built in 1934 that boasts meticulous acoustics. “Every time we played the Plaza we wondered what it would sound like to record drums there. We finally decided to put all our eggs in one basket,” Chris says.

In June of 2022, the band rented the theater and brought its trusty engineer, Jordan Westfall, and all its recording equipment into the theater, setting up the basement as the control room and the stage as the live drum room. John Fred tore through his drum tracks like a beast, and they ended up sounding mountainous. Chris and Ben had time to record guitars in the theater before heading out on tour. Those tracks also sounded richly dynamic, and the rest of Screamin’ At The Sky was finished post-tour at the theater and at John Fred’s makeshift home studio.

Time between recording sessions, and incredible room ambience have resulted in a career high watermark for BSC. Screamin’ At The Sky bursts open with the title track which kicks off with the feral roar of dimed amps in a big open space. Then a bruising riff cycles through punctuated by what can be best described as John Bonham-sized drums in a sleek modern rock context. For the chorus, Chris delivers one of his finest performances, managing to be raw-nerved emotional but also smoothly melodic. “My idea for the chorus is a bunch of friends around a campfire screaming their pain away,” Chris says.

He is courageously autobiographical on the anthemic, “Nervous,” which opens with the lyrics: Memory lane, it’s ‘85, a baby boy with big blue eyes/And promises just waiting to be broken. The song balances slamming hard rock riffage with moody clean-guitar verses, reflective singing, and meticulously-crafted vocal melodies that gracefully rise until climaxing into an urgently-melodic chorus.

The barnburners continue with “When The Pain Comes,” an uplifting modern rock statement on confronting life’s challenges without succumbing to the pain. “That’s about digging your heels in the dirt and staying strong,” John Fred says. The single, “Out Of Pocket,” became something of an instant classic when the guys debuted it on their UK tour last summer. It epitomizes the band’s prowess at mixing sweetly weary verses with incendiary choruses. BSC lighten things up with “Smile, World,” a brawny sing-along about not taking life too seriously.

Screamin’ At The Sky has been a catharsis for Black Stone Cherry, and the quartet is savoring the calm after the storm. “A lot of bands would have thrown in the towel, but we came out the other side with some of the best music we’ve ever made,” Ben enthuses. Chris concludes: “ We’re in a great space—this band is as much as a family as it’s ever been.”

Over the past decade, few artists have embodied the unbridled freedom of punk like Skating Polly. Formed when stepsisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse were just 9 and 13, the Oklahoma-bred band have channeled their chameleonic musicality into a sound they call “ugly-pop,” unruly and subversive and wildly melodic. With Kelli’s brother Kurtis Mayo joining on drums in 2017, they’ve also built a close-knit community of fans while earning the admiration of their musical forebears, a feat that’s found them collaborating with icons like X’s Exene Cervenka and Beat Happening’s Calvin Johnson, touring with Babes In Toyland, and starring as the subject of a feature-length documentary. On their double album Chaos County Line, Skating Polly reach a whole new level of self-possession, ultimately sharing their most expansive and emotionally powerful work to date.

The follow-up to 2018’s The Make It All Show, Chaos County Line finds Skating Polly working again with Brad Wood, the acclaimed producer behind indie-rock classics like Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville. As their songs journey from art-punk to noise-rock to piano-driven power-pop, the band matches that musical complexity with a sharply honed narrative voice that manifests in countless forms (ultravivid poetry, diary-like confession, fearlessly detailed storytelling, etc.). Not only the outcome of their constant growth as songwriters, Chaos County Line’s scope and depth has much to do with Skating Polly’s newly heightened clarity of vision. “All these songs are the most special to me of anything I’ve ever written, and I think Kelli feels the same,” says Peyton. “In the past I didn’t always write with a clear purpose, but this time I knew exactly what I wanted to say. We both ended up writing about the most difficult emotional experiences we’ve ever been through, and instead of being terrified of saying exactly what I was feeling it just all came out so naturally.”

Whether they’re opening up about matters internal (identity, disassociation, unhealthy coping mechanisms) or external (obsession, deception, gaslighting), Skating Polly imbue that outpouring with an unfettered emotional truth. On songs like Chaos County Line’s frenetic lead single “Hickey King,” Kelli and Peyton trade off vocals as they share their distinct perspectives on closely related experiences—in this case, the minefield of power dynamics in sex and relationships. “In Peyton’s verse she’s talking about never knowing how far to go or how much of yourself to give to someone, and when my part comes crashing in it’s about guys being possessive and always trying to leave their mark on you,” Kelli says. “To me it’s the most Skating Polly song on the record, because it’s all these different energies happening at once.” Meanwhile, on “I’m Sorry For Always Apologizing,” Skating Polly deliver a bouncy piece of bubblegum-punk in which Kelli calls herself out on certain messy behavior in her past. And on “Double Decker,” Peyton examines her own possibly self-sabotaging patterns, magnifying the song’s mood of confusion with a dizzying guitar solo and breakneck vocal performance. Elsewhere on Chaos County Line, Skating Polly offer up moments of unabashed fun—“Rabbit Food,” for instance, serves up a pure rush of punk delirium spotlighting Kelli’s gift for infusing so much psychodrama into her vocal work.

Over the course of its 18 kaleidoscopic tracks, Chaos County Line embraces the kind of combustible emotionality that comes from fully uncompromised self-expression. “I think on this record Kelli and Peyton were really confident in being more honest and more experimental at the same time, whereas in the past they might’ve made the lyrics more poetic in order to cloak that honesty a bit,” says Kurtis. And as their songs shift from devastating to exhilarating to gloriously cathartic, Skating Polly hope to provide the same sense of solace they found in creating the album. “I’ve had people tell me we’ve helped them get through a breakup or an abusive relationship or the death of someone they loved, and all these other heavy obstacles everyone goes through,” says Kelli. “I feel like I’m not necessarily the best person to draw a map on how to live the happiest life, but I like the idea that our songs can make other people’s lives better in some way. I want our music to be like armor.”

SOFY exists in the gaps between genres.

Atlas&i emerged from the UK alternative rock scene in 2010, releasing their debut album 'In Desolate Times' on famed independent record label, Small Town Records. Garnering rave reviews from the likes of Rocksound and Kerrang! for their breathtaking energetic live shows, Atlas&i soared to the forefront of the UK rock scene.

The View are a Scottish indie rock band that formed in Dundee in 2005. They incorporate various styles such as punk, pop, alternative rock, and folk in their music. They are best known for their 2007 single "Same Jeans" which reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.

The band have released five studio albums since their platinum selling debut Hats Off to the Buskers, which topped the UK Albums Chart in January 2007 and was nominated for the 2007 Mercury Music Prize.

Despite never matching this early success, they enjoy a large fanbase in their native Scotland with albums regularly topping the Scottish Albums Chart. The band also hold a reputation for their live performances with regularly sold-out tours in Scotland. The View are also regular fixtures at music festivals throughout the UK; they played at Scotland's largest festival—T in the Park—a record eight times, with organiser Geoff Ellis saying, "The View can play every year under my watch, if they want to."

Synth-pop pioneers Heaven 17 have announced an exciting new headline tour for October 2026 across the UK including dates in hometown Sheffield’s Octagon and London’s iconic O2 Shepherds Bush Empire. SUPPORT: The Wytches Sometimes, you have to go backwards to go forwards. That’s precisely what The Wytches have done on Talking Machine, the Brighton band’s fifth full-length. In more ways than one, too. For a start, the title of the record was inspired by a book about Thomas Edison, whose nickname for gramophones was ‘talking machine’. Then there’s the music itself. While The Wytches – now consisting of Kristian Bell (lead vocals/guitar), Daniel Rumsey (bass), Mark Breed (keyboards/guitar) and Bhav Thaker (drums) – have had a rather anachronistic aspect to them since forming in Peterborough in 2011, there was a very intentional push to summon influences from the past for this album’s 11 songs.

Northern lads The Lilacs are a high-energy indie band from Wigan. In just a few years, the band has made a real name for themselves up and down the country, having played sets at iconic venues such as Manchester’s Albert Hall, various O2 Academy venues, and even found themselves on the bill at the mighty Isle of Wight Festival. The lads have accumulated over half a million streams worldwide, catching the ‘ear’ of various well-known radio stations such as XS Manchester. Their debut single Vicarage Road has found its way onto thousands of playlists and has become one of the band’s most recognised tunes with upwards of 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone.

Having formed a strong friendship in a previous band, Ollie Anglesea (Singer) and Sam Birchall (lead Guitar) quickly developed the appetite to create a legacy of their own. After tireless months of long rehearsals and endless train fares, the band became complete when additions Dave Gomersall (Drums) and Matt Johnson (Bass Guitar) were made in October of 2018. With the line-up complete and tunes up their sleeves, the next thing on the agenda was to name the band. It was clear from the off this wasn’t going to be easy, with numerous suggestions being cast aside. Unfortunately earlier that year, Sam lost his mum in a battle with secondary breast cancer. Having numerous visits for treatment at The Lilac Centre (a specialist cancer clinic), the lads felt this was a suggestion that couldn’t be overseen.

This announcement follows the news that The Streets will open this year’s Rock N Roll Circus Norwich on Friday 21st August, with that date nearing a complete and total sell out. The show forms part of the second ever Rock N Roll Circus Norwich weekend, following the event’s triumphant debut in 2025 and its eagerly awaited return in 2026. The festival’s unique big top setting, combination of live music, circus performance and immersive entertainment has quickly made it one of the most distinctive new fixtures on the UK festival calendar. Madness remains one of Britain’s most beloved and enduring live acts. With a career spanning more than four decades, they’ve sold millions of records worldwide and produced an endless list of classics including Our House, One Step Beyond, It Must Be Love, Baggy Trousers and House of Fun. Known for their irresistible energy and everyman storytelling, the Camden legends continue to sell out arenas and headline major festivals across the globe. Their latest release, The Hit Parade, celebrates an extraordinary legacy with a 44-track journey through every one of the band’s UK top 40 singles, as well as fan favourites and rare gems. The album reinforces what fans already know - few groups have defined British pop culture quite like Madness. Joining them in Norwich will be a line-up that celebrates the very best in British and global music heritage. Rock N Roll Circus has revealed the next major announcement for its return to Earlham Park, Norwich from Friday 21 - Sunday 23 August 2026, confirming a huge bill for Saturday 22nd August.

In a one-off celebration of three generation-defining records, The Kooks, The Vaccines and The Fratellis will each perform one of their seminal albums under the Big Top.

Brighton favourites The Kooks will headline the Saturday night, performing their platinum-selling debut album Inside In / Inside Out. The album catapulted the band into fame, selling more than 2 million copies and helping define an era of music. Two decades since their debut, The Kooks are resonating with a whole new generation. With sold-out tours and epic returns to festival main stages, the band has firmly cemented their place in the hearts of Gen Z fans. The album includes enduring anthems She Moves in Her Own Way, Ooh La and Naïve, and remains a staple part of indie culture more than 15 years after its release.

Joining them are London heroes The Vaccines, who will perform their explosive debut What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? in its entirety. Released in 2011 and containing breakout hits If You Wanna, Post Break-Up Sex and Nørgaard, the album became one of the fastest-selling debuts of the decade and helped define a new wave of British indie energy.

Completing the trio are Scottish icons The Fratellis, performing their beloved debut Costello Music from start to finish. The album launched the band onto the global stage with hits including Chelsea Dagger, Henrietta and Whistle For The Choir, earning the group a BRIT Award and setting the tone for one of the most recognisable sounds of the era.

The Saturday line-up marks another major moment for Rock N Roll Circus’ return to Norwich in 2026, following last year’s hugely successful debut which saw thousands head to Earlham Park for headline performances from McFly, Courteeners and Olly Murs, alongside acrobats, fire shows, circus performers and an immersive festival atmosphere that captivated the city.

After the incredible response to last year’s debut, we wanted to create something truly special for the 2026 edition. Is This How Happiness Feels was produced by Danny Lafrombé and Jon McClure and is the follow up to Reverend & The Makers Top 10 album Heatwave In The Cold North. Curated by indie live agency Motion Talent, all three bands are part of the emerging artists on their roster, and the tour aims to boost grassroots touring through indie venues with a fan friendly low-ticket price. First up, London via Bristol trio The Jacques have been carving their way up and down the country and the EU with post punk legends Public Image Limited in recent times, and since first forming as young teenagers, they’ve supported The Libertines at Hyde Park and played Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds. Their story has been fraught with as many ups as downs, but The Jacques have proved themselves to be true road warriors and survivors. Their genre-smashing fusion of mutant punk, psychedelic grunge and joyous indie rock never fails to hit the spot.

“Being on the road is the best,” state the band. “We spent most of last year on tour in endless scrapes and adventures and it was while bouncing around the back of the van on a cold night up north that we thought of getting our label mates to come and join us on a tour like the old school ones. It’s going to be a blast!”

Also joining the tour are Liverpool’s The Sukis, who are fast making a name for themselves as one of the most exciting alternative rock bands on the scene today. Punky, intelligent and an explosive live act, their songs dive deep into the psyche of what it is to be young.

Lastly, Pistol Daisys are storming the alt-pop scene with a fierce energy that's quickly earned them a devoted following, blending Glasgow’s vibrant grit with heartfelt authenticity to create music that captivates fans across Scotland all the way to Europe.

Their live shows convey a whirlwind of raw emotion and authentic connection, thrilling audiences and filling venues with a sound that blends confessional songwriting with dance-oriented hooks, drawing comparisons to bands like Blondie and mixing pop, rock and electronic elements.

Anybody familiar with the teeth-gnashing, blood-dripping punk snarl of Kid Kapichi knows about their ‘Fearless Nature’, so it should, at first glance, come as no surprise that the Hastings band’s fourth album should take that title.

The group that lacerated the anxious political zeitgeist with the partygate-bait of ‘Party At No. 10’ or challenged Kafkaesque Brexit disillusionment with ‘Can EU Hear Me’ have from day one stood out in their fearlessness when it comes to sticking their heads above the parapet.

Lean in closer to ‘Fearless Nature’, though, and something is different. On lead single ‘Stainless Steel’, when that album title first crosses the lips of frontman Jack Wilson, it is not in the form of a statement of defiance but in a moment of doubt.

“Are you scared of your fearless nature?” he sings, and it is clear the question is pointed at himself. “I’m not made of stainless steel,” goes the chorus. “I’m made of blood, I’m made of bone”.

Wilson describes ‘Stainless Steel’ as the bridge from the old Kid Kapichi to the new, and in its lethal, taut, muscular efficiency it certainly bears the hallmarks of the band’s classic sound, but the maturity of its point of view and the courage in its vulnerability is something new.

The songs that make up the album were written during the summer of 2024, a period of deep change in Wilson life. “I was in a pretty awful place where I just didn’t know who I was, what I was doing,” he explains. “I felt extremely depressed, which I’d never experienced before in my life.”

The end of a stable relationship had become the catalyst for a swirl of mental health challenges for Wilson, and one consequence was that where his writing had once been fuelled by anger, it was now being controlled by fear.

“The other albums were observations, written about other people,” he says. “This one resounds with me and who I was at the time. It is introspective, I had just had my mind blown open to how vulnerable I was.”
You hear it throughout ‘Fearless Nature’, an album riven with moments of self-doubt made by a band that has grown bold enough to show the bullet holes in their armour after years on the frontline.

“Too hot, too cold, reputation to uphold, too weak, too bold, there’s a reputation to live up to,” Wilson sings at the outset of ‘Intervention’, amid a squall of guitar feedback that masquerades as the grey fuzz of a mind overheating with confusion and insecurity.

The making of the record proved to be therapeutic for Wilson and the risks he took in opening up have paid off. “I feel great now. When I listen to this album, it’s the most proud I’ve ever been of anything I’ve ever done, because listening back to it, it’s like, I was in a place I’d never been before and wasn’t really equipped to deal with. Now, I’ve got control of the situation.”

‘Fearless Nature’ is also a bridge to a new Kid Kapichi in a more literal sense. In May 2025, guitarist Ben Beetham and drummer George Macdonald announced they were leaving the band, a decision they had made internally some six months earlier. The choice was made amicably, and ‘Fearless Nature’ stands at the intersection of the two generations; the songs were written, recorded and produced with the old line-up (co-produced by Beetham alongside Mike Horner), but are now set to be taken on the road with the new makeup of the band.

Guitarist Lee Martin and drummer Miles Gill are both longtime friends of Wilson and bassist Eddie Lewis and veterans of countless hard-playing bands on the live circuit in the South of England. “They are insanely talented,” Wilson says. “There’s a whole new vibrancy, especially at live shows where we’re all bouncing off the walls because it feels like our first ever gig again.”

Make no mistake, the band that self-produced their incendiary debut album ‘This Time Next Year’ during the pandemic is alive and well in the fabric of ‘Fearless Nature’ too, though. You don’t need a political diploma to identify Wilson’s targets on ‘Leader Of The Free World’, for example, when he sings, “Is it the money or the people / Is it the church or the steeple / It turns out the first one was better than the sequel”.
On the haunting, liminal ‘Dark Days Are Coming’, we hear the two themes coalesce, with Wilson singing of being trapped inside his mind with a “voice that’s been designed to keep me up at night”, before turning the spotlight outwards at the legacy of austerity-era Britain: “And I find that it’s dangerous to trust in the hand that cradles us, in the eyes that label us the grit that won’t come loose.”

Kid Kapichi belong to a generation of punk-coded artists that have spearheaded a renewed political activism in grassroots music culture in Britain in recent years, a movement that has come under fire in 2025 due to what Wilson describes as the “absolute madness” of the dismissed terror trial of Kneecap’s Mo Chara in London and the tabloid paranoia stoked after Bob Vylan’s provocative Glastonbury set.
“The fact that they’re trying so hard to shut down independent artists is a sign of the times and it is showing that it is working,” Wilson says. “They’re doing this because they know that people are listening and they are waking up. What we’re doing and what other bands are doing is working.”

The band’s political message may be undimmed, but with ‘Fearless Nature’ expanding their repertoire, it now has company. Their decision to allow an emotional complexity into their lyrical perspective is a major step forward, and the benefits are there for all to draw strength from.

“When I listen to this album, I’m like, this makes so much fucking sense,” says Wilson. “It’s comforting to know how much things can change in a short space of time. The message of the album is that it does get better and you do get through it.”

Elephant Kind was formed in Mastro's bedroom in Perth, Australia over a decade ago, acting as an outlet to express himself creatively, a purely introspective project that was more for himself than anyone else before moving to Indonesia. Now in 2022, the band is a three piece with four projects to their name, hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners across the globe and a firmly cemented place as one of Indonesia's most beloved alternative outfits. Their fresh take on alternative indie has earned them critical recognition and acclaim both at home and globally, constantly building year on year as their worldwide ambition comes into fruition.

In Indonesia, the band have won big at awards ceremonies including The Indonesian Cutting Edge Music Awards and amassed a wealth of nominations at The AMI’s and The Indonesia’s Choice Awards. Their success at home also saw some of the most culturally impactful brands approach the band for collaborations, working with the likes of Gucci, Dior, Vans and Dr. Martens to name a few.

Kevin Septanto and Bayu Adisapoetra make up a trio with Mastro, working together to create the genre-straddling Elephant Kind sound, bringing together a multitude of inspirations and styles to craft something remarkably unique. With this new dynamic comes a new writing
style, with a full band involvement rather than simply a solo entity. The band's forthcoming project is undoubtedly the start of a new era, taking on board a fresh creative process to create arguably their most forward thinking work to date.

"This is the first record where I let go of a lot of my ego, I suppose" says Mastro, "And I just kind of let everyone join with ideas this time. That was difficult at first as it's hard listening to other people, but Bayu and Kevin came in with new, exciting things, and it was refreshing just knowing that you're not as powerful as you think you are on your own".

Although Indonesia is rife with talent, few bands 'make it' internationally, a fact which makes this moment in time so exciting for Elephant Kind. "When we were younger we never saw an Indonesian band have international success, so the dream has always been there for us to break that mould" says Bayu Adisapoetra.

"I think the best part of being successful in Indonesia is that by nature, you're able to sustain a career longer than everywhere else in the world. If you make it there, they're gonna love you for a very long time."

When it comes to live, the next year will see Elephant Kind introduced to a totally new audience, with a whole new country of fans to engage with. As one of the country’s definitive alternative outfits they’re also a go-to support for huge international talent, touring with the likes of The XX and Franz Ferdinand. The Wonder Stuff have announced an extensive UK tour for October 2026, celebrating the alt-rock band’s 40th anniversary.

The 16-date tour will begin in Newcastle on 1st October, and will include further dates Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield, Brighton, Bournemouth, Margate, Glasgow, Cardiff, Leeds, Leicester, Scarborough, Norwich, Lincoln, Wolverhampton and Liverpool, before ending the year with a date at London’s Brixton Academy on 8th December.

The Wonder Stuff’s long-time line-up of Miles Hunt (vocals/guitar), Malc Treece (guitar/vocals), Erica Nockalls (violin/vocals), Mark Gemini Thwaite (guitar), Tim Sewell (bass) and Pete Howard (drums) will perform a career-spanning sets, including hits singles and fan favourites such as ‘Unbearable’, ‘A Wish Away’, ‘Caught In My Shadow’, ‘Size of A Cow’, and ‘Don’t Let Me Know Down, Gently’, amongst many others.

Joining The Wonder Stuff as the tour’s very special guests will be Inspiral Carpets.

Formed in Birmingham/Black Country area in 1986, The Wonder Stuff signed to Polydor Records in 1987 and released four Top 20 albums between 1988 and 1994 – ‘The Eight Legged Groove Machine’ in 1988 (#19), ‘HUP’ in 1989 (#5), ‘Never Loved Elvis’ in 1991 (#3) and ‘Construction For The Modern Idiot’ in 1993 (#4).

In addition, the band enjoyed thirteen Top 40 singles, including collaborations with Kirsty MacColl on ‘Welcome To The Cheap Seats’ and the Number One single with comedians Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, ‘Dizzy’.

During this time The Wonder Stuff regularly appeared on the front covers of the British music press and made six separate appearances on the BBC’s flagship music TV program ‘Top Of The Pops’. In addition, the band sold-out four nights in a row at London’s Brixton Academy and headlined numerous festivals, including the Reading Festival in 1992.

DON BROCO are a band that constantly defy categorization. Since forming in 2008, the English act—vocalist Rob Damiani, guitarist Simon Delaney, bassist Tom Doyle and drummer/vocalist Matt Donnelly—have been creating innovative music that effortlessly merges elements of metal, post-hardcore, and electronica, into a unique amalgam of music all their own. “I love being surprised and I love music taking turns that you wouldn’t expect,” Damiani explains. “When you’re writing a song you have a million options and it’s always the paths that lead somewhere unexpected that get me the most excited.” While this flair for experimentation has always been a hallmark of DON BROCO’s sound, the band’s Fearless Records debut Nightmare Tripping sees the quartet creating the heaviest and most nuanced album of their career. It also illustrates why the band have sold out venues like Wembley Arena and Alexandra Palace in the UK; performed to frenzied crowds at Download and Reading & Leeds Festival; headlined Slam Dunk Festival; and toured alongside Pierce The Veil, Bring Me The Horizon and 30 Seconds To Mars.

To record Nightmare Tripping the band once again reunited with longtime producer/collaborator Dan Lacaster, who has gone on to work with everyone from Bring Me The Horizon and Muse since getting his start working on DON BROCO’s debut full-length Priorities in 2012. “It’s been so awesome to see Dan’s growth as a producer and musician in his own right,” says Damiani. “He’s also one of the best singers I’ve ever heard in my life which is great because it really pushes me and Matt to up our game in order to live up to that.” While the band’s last album, 2021’s Amazing Things has been streamed 57 million times, the band didn’t try to replicate that album this time around. Correspondingly, one of the most dramatic sonic shifts on Nightmare Tripping is the way that Damiani is able to further integrate screaming into the band’s sound. “It’s something I’ve always done live, but I found myself embracing that style on this album in a way I haven’t done in the past,” he explains. “Embracing those harsher vocals has been exciting for us creatively.”

In that spirit, the infectious track “Cellophane” sees Damiani alternate between melodic vocals and throat-shredding gasps while “Disappear” sees him using his voice as another instrument that parallels the vibe of the music, which ranges from dance-inspired to straight-up demonic. “This is probably our darkest album yet and it’s definitely lost some of the positivity of Amazing Things,” Damiani admits. “I’m a very positive person in general and I’m always trying to find silver linings, but that’s not a fix-all tool.” From the rising popularity of fascism in Europe to the genocide in Palestine, many of the lyrics on Nightmare Tripping were driven by Damiani’s attempt to cope with a world that seemed to be descending into chaos. That said, the album isn’t all doom and gloom. “One song that’s very important to me is ‘Pacify Me’; it’s about finding the courage in yourself to speak out about things that are important to you. Hopefully the song can provide some positivity to people who are feeling the same things as me.”

Nightmare Tripping also features some star-studded collaborations from the legendary rock act Nickelback (“Nightmare Tripping”) as well as Architects’ vocalist Sam Carter (“True Believers”). “I always had Sam in mind for ‘True Believers; ’it’s one of the angriest songs on the album and Sam stands for the same things that we do,” Damiani says. (Amazingly, Carter recorded his standout vocals for the song during the one day off he had back in the UK while supporting Linkin Park on their European tour.) The other notable collaboration came about because it turned out Nickelback were DON BROCO fans and reaching out to the band wanting to tour together. While the tour wasn’t able to happen due to logistical reasons, they were able to collaborate on this album for a song that further pushes the conventions of DON BROCO’s sound. Correspondingly, “Nightmare Tripping” both features a radio-ready chorus as well as earth-shaking breathdown that are certain to inspire mosh-pit theatrics around the world in a live setting.

Ultimately with Nightmare Tripping, DON BROCO have successfully redefined their sound while staying true to their past, something that Damiani credits to the deep connection its members have forged since starting the band as teenagers. “As a band all four of us have very strong feelings when it comes to our songwriting, which is why it can take so long to write a record compared to other bands,” he explains. “As long as we keep our communication open and allow everyone’s ideas to be heard, things work out for the best.” That ability to listen to each other and not be closed off to unorthodox ideas lies at the core of what makes Nightmare Tripping such a powerful and groundbreaking release. DON BROCO isn’t one person, it’s the cumulative vision of all of the members of the band—and it’s a message that the world very much needs to hear right now.

Lately, it feels like the world is one endless bad news cycle. Joshua Idehen isn’t here to pretend otherwise – but on the spoken word artist’s new album, I Know You’re Hurting, Everyone Is Hurting, Everyone Is Trying, You Have Got To Try, he provides a phenomenal sonic, poetic space. Made with his creative partner, musician Ludvig Parment, the album (out 6 March 2026) is an urgent but transcendent collection that holds you through it all, filled with grief, euphoria and hope.

I Know You’re Hurting… comes after the virality of Idehen’s track Mum Does The Washing, a wry and whipsmart poem examining how the world works (which started life as a Twitter thread), set to Parment’s spacious beats. The song has seen the pair propelled beyond Idehen’s wildest dreams this past year, with support from the likes of Jamz Supernova and Huw Stephens leading to sold-out shows and packed out festival performances including rammed crowds at Glastonbury and Green Man, an appearance on Later with Jools, and a support slot on Baxter Dury’s European tour this winter. For Idehen, this is all so special because it marked a new era of his career after around two decades of writing poetry. “In a nutshell, the song has changed my life,” he says.

British-born Nigerian Idehen had been more interested in film as a medium when he was younger. In fact, poetry was something he actively disliked back when he was studying at Hackney Community College and working in a bar in the West End. But one night when he got home from work and switched on Channel U, he was struck by Dizzee Rascal’s Vexed. “It had me in a trance, that kind of first person rant, stream of consciousness monologue, whatever you want to call it – but it sounds like him just pouring out, venting into the void.” And so, Idehen began to write, and over years of open mic nights and new connections, he became a need-to-know name in London’s poetry circuit.

Inspired by his peer Scroobius Pip, he quickly became intrigued by setting his poems to music, and so began work with bands including LV, Benin City and Calabashed, alongside recording guest features with the likes of Sons of Kemet and The Comet is Coming. Touring with these bands and “swirling around the UK jazz scene” helped build up Idehen’s confidence as a live performer in the late 2010s – but, around the same time, he was experiencing turbulence in his personal life, including his divorce and several suicide attempts thereafter. The Covid-19 pandemic began and Idehen moved to Stockholm, where he had the space to process all that was happening in his life.

“The calm and sedateness of Stockholm was exactly what I needed at the time,” he explains, “It helped me see the totality of myself. I was tired of being sad and ashamed, and mournful of the past, the life I'd had, feeling like the villain in my own life. My daughter was born and I reached a point where I didn't just want to make sad music anymore. I didn't just want to make music that was me feeling sorry for myself, or feeling sorry for the world.”

And so, Idehen began to contemplate pairing his poetry with something more uplifting: specifically, with dance music. “There has to be light at the end, something to hold onto,” he says. It was around this time that an old friend he’d met in London, Parment – also known as producer Saturday, Monday – reached out. The pair began a back and forth on what would become Don’t You Give Up On Me, a single which eventually became the opening song on their 2023 mixtape, Learn to Swim. For Parment, writing apart and then feeding back to each other made for a fruitful collaboration: “I would say we have kind of a sibling relationship…or an old couple, as some say. We’re very straightforward and aren’t afraid to fight for our creative ideas, but at the same time we really do listen to each other and are okay with being wrong sometimes. I love it because I always get to pursue my ideas, but I know there is a guard-rail if I get lost – and I think that goes both ways.”

Idehen compares their work together to Sade: the name of the band may be Joshua Idehen, but it is the two of them making the songs. This symbiotic collaboration continued into what would become I Know You’re Hurting…, a release which looks both inward and outward for redemption, trying to capture and store the moments of positivity that sometimes feel fleeting and assert that better times have to be coming. As they began to play shows with the new music, the direction they needed to take became clearer.

“When we started working together we had some idea of what we wanted the message to be and what kind of inspirations to draw on, but we didn’t really have a clear idea on how it would be consumed,” explains Parment, “But as we started touring we started learning a lot about the project; we realised that we prefer a standing audience to a sitting one, and we do want to make them dance at some point. So I think a big point for me was to make music that had depth and fit the themes of Joshua’s writing – but still make it danceable.”

Across the album, that means uplifting choirs, cozy samples and exuberant, sometimes house-tinged beats. “I am personally drawn to music that transports you to a place, or scene or mindset,” says Parment. This is topped with ruminative musings on morality and human connection; about the longer loves in life – like friendships, family – that sustain us. These come from Idehen and Parment, along with a host of friends and collaborators, including writers Leone Ross and Charlotte Manning, and vocalist Amanda Bergman, to help expand on the topics of the record without sounding preachy. Similarly, there are musical guests including saxophonist Pete Fraser and Shabaka Hutchings on flute, each helping to imbue the album with a rich warmth.

From the opening track You Wanna Dance Or What?, there are poignant stories about the possibilities of human connection – here, a memory of a stranger approaching Joshua when he was feeling low at a club in Leicester Square – set against Parment’s freeing beats. There are memories of sunrises on Hampstead Heath (It Always Was), celebrations of the liturgic power of the club (This Is The Place), affirmations that kept Idehen afloat in a particularly dark time (Brother), all dotted with his observations and notes from past conversations with people from all walks of life. On Choose Yourself, Idehen is not so interested in the hokey bath bomb self-care that has dominated discourse the past few years, but in reinforcing self-belief and self-worth – all while never getting too mawkish (see: lines like “Choose a balanced diet/Eat the rich!”). Everything Everywhere All At Once is a stunning exploration of the sliding doors moments of our lives, contemplating all the universes that exist within his daughter, followed by a choral reprise, singing a melody composed by Idehen. “I’m not confident with singing or songwriting, so when the choir sang something I had made and brought it back to me, I had proper tears.”

After years of honing his craft, I Know You’re Hurting, Everyone Is Hurting, Everyone Is Trying, You Have Got To Try finds Joshua Idehen’s pen reaching the next level. This is work that is truly arresting – but simultaneously, thanks to Parment’s soundscapes, it often makes you want to wave your arms in the air and dance. In these bleak times that try to push us all further apart, it’s a beautiful, powerful manifesto for hope and collectivism. As Joshua puts it: “There's a likelihood that we might be planting seeds that we won't get to see harvested…but the planting is good. The planting is just as important as the watering and the tending and the harvesting. We all have to play a part so that we can have some redemption.”

Buoyed by the joy of creating their 2022 album - Confidence - The Hoosiers are swaggering back through the saloon doors of the music industry with both barrels locked and loaded. Armed with their sixth album, Irwin Sparkes & Alan Sharland pick up where they left off; honing a more adult take on the jubilant sound that made a name for them back in 2007.

Reflections between the duo probed the question of why even bother to make an album - at considerable cost - in an age with scant regard for the form? “The conversation that had been picked up with fans following Confidence had taken on a momentum of its own and we were compelled not to lose something so valuable”, says Irwin. With Compassion, Al & Irwin wished to imbue the listener with this new-found sense of self-belief in what they do and who they are.

This time the question of how to focus the album was handled in a novel way: “Releasing an album into the world is like releasing your intentions so we wanted to approach it as if we had a genie offering us one wish”, says Al Sharland. “On a personal and political level, it’s apparent that we could all do with more compassion.” The way we talk to ourselves influencing how we talk to each other and thereby creating the world in which we live; this tied together the songs already written (‘Everybody Is A Little More Broken Than They Pretend To Be’, and ‘Don’t Hang Your Head’) with those that would be written with the concept of compassion in mind (‘Permission To Rest’).

Perhaps where compassion is needed the most is when it comes to people who don’t share our values and this is what the title track ‘Compassion’ is grappling with. “We love playing in this band more than ever and we feel so loved by the fans we have and this album is a big, stanky hug back to them”, clarifies Irwin. “We don’t just want to leave the world with better music than when we found it”, winks Al, “we want to leave it a more confident, compassionate spinning orb.” Compassion is out 15th May, available in all good book stores and car boots.

The HU are a fantastically unique force of nature. A musical sensation formed in 2016 in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar, the quartet are the pioneers of the genre Hunnu Rock, with almost 900 million global streams to their name – and counting. 2019’s debut album The Gereg put them on the map: not just in their home country, where they were the first group ever to be awarded the prestigious Chinggis Khaan Order, but even a galaxy far, far away, contributing an original song to the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order soundtrack.

Two years later, their name sat alongside the likes of Elton John, St. Vincent and Ghost on the epic tracklist to The Metallica Blacklist record, performing a distinct, formidable cover of ‘Through The Never’ at the personal request of the metal legends. And 2022 follow-up album Rumble Of Thunder took The HU to iconic stages such as England’s Glastonbury Festival, and into North American arenas supporting Iron Maiden.

These captivating first two records made good on the band’s promise of sharing their beautiful heritage – indeed, their lyrics are entirely, and very deliberately, all in Mongolian. “If you learn the language and translate our lyrics, you’ll understand the context even more – the background of why we chose these words,” explains frontman Gala, who is the group’s throat singer and morin khuur (horsehead fiddle) player. “Hopefully we will encourage people to speak more Mongolian and become interested Mongolian culture. It’s a very rich culture and it needs to be represented.”

Now, as The HU gear up for the release of their highly-anticipated third album in 2026, they’re taking things even further. Knuckling down to work at their second home of Nature Sound Studio in Ulaanbaatar – a place so familiar and comfortable that “sometimes we take off our shoes, it’s that level of freedom”, grins Gala – the band have been pushing their limits, describing this latest work as an “enriched” take on Hunnu Rock.

“We took our time to do this right, and I’m so glad that we’re almost ready to release what we have worked on these past few years,” Gala says. “As well as always staying true to ourselves, the most important thing for us is longevity. That has been the case since the beginning of the band. We don’t just want a song that will be in the charts for a week and then drop off. We want to create something that will last for decades.”

In the more immediate future, though, The HU have plotted a busy summer in Europe on their Incarnation tour, with slots at festivals such as France’s Hellfest, Germany’s Graspop Metal Meeting and Denmark’s Roskilde. Beyond that, they hope to return to the States, and “tour around the world” to celebrate a whole new era of the band.

“We are focusing on the performances and working out a brand-new setlist,” teases Gala. “We want to play bigger venues so we can do extensive production, and bring in some amazing elements of our culture, and play these ideas to our fans. Produced by Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey, Yard Act), One More Thing is the culmination of a stellar run of singles and non-stop touring from Lime Garden since their emergence in 2021. Their hard-work has started to pay-off with soaring streaming listeners coinciding with sold-out shows up and down the country both headlining and in support of the likes of IDLES, The Big Moon, and Yard Act. One More Thing will be available in standard red vinyl, a special Dinked edition Cornetto vinyl, and a special Lime Garden edition blue vinyl.

Speaking about ‘I Want To Be You’, Lime Garden’s Chloe Howard said: “‘I Want To Be You’ was inspired by a very specific memory I have as a 14 year old at my first gig looking at the band playing and thinking, “do I Want to be you or be with you, or do I want both?”. This feeling has continued to raise its head on many occasions in my life, and it’s become quite an obsessive process at times. Growing up with social media and the constant ability to follow your idols, with access into ‘their world’, has fuelled this in an unhealthy way.”

“I’m the type of person who can get very deep into something, but now I try to channel that into something more constructive and real, like music and art. Recording this song was an attempt to emulate the feeling of true obsession through sound.”

Lime Garden played the British Music Embassy at this year’s SXSW festival and completed a packed summer of festival appearances across Europe, including Glastonbury where they were invited to play Billy Bragg’s Leftfield Stage. In 2022, Lime Garden were nominated for the prestigious ANCHOR award at the Reeperbahn festival.

With each release, Lime Garden have continued to further their reputation as one of indie’s hottest prospects with a host of tips behind them from NME’s 100, Dork’s Hype List, DIY’s Class of, The Sunday Times Culture’s Breaking Act, and The Independent’s New Sensations. The band also received a glowing endorsement from Paramore’s Hayley Williams on her special Everything Is Emo show on BBC Radio 6 Music.

Over the course of Lime Garden’s punchy debut record One More Thing, we’re granted exclusive access to the sonic diary of four best friends as they come of age. “I feel like you can hear us growing up in the songs,” says vocalist and rhythm guitarist Chloe Howard. The indie-electro band (completed by Leila Deeley (lead guitar), Tippi Morgan (bass) and Annabel Whittle (drums)) have been making music together since they were 16, releasing since 2020 and garnering support from 6 Music, NME and The Independent.
